A disk is segmented into a first data segment and a secondary data segment. The secondary data segment stores a logical mirror of the first data segment of another disk. Fast access to data stored on the disk is provided by partitioning the disk such that the first data segment includes the fast tracks of the disk and the secondary data segment includes the slow tracks of the disk and forwarding all data requests to the first data segment. Upon detecting a failure, the logical mirror of data stored in the first data segment of the failed disk is accessible from the secondary data segment of a non-failed disk. A mechanism to allow hosts on the plaintext side of IP-layer encryptors to utilize Performance Enhancing Proxies (PEPs) on the ciphertext side of IP-layer encryptors is provided. Two processes are utilized for each IP-layer encryptor to extend a higher-level protocol (as represented, for example, by OSI layers 4-7) from the plaintext or red-side of the IP-layer encryptor to the ciphertext or black-side of the IP-layer encryptor. These two processes are known as the red-side Performance Enhancing Proxy Enabler (PEPE) and the black-side PEPE. Hence, PEPEs allow packets exchanged by red-side hosts separated by IP-layer encryptors to be transmitted on the black-side using a higher-level protocol. A signature generation and verification system including a signature generation apparatus and a signature verification apparatus is provided. Based on signer certification information possessed by a signer, the signature generation apparatus generates a digital signature and verification data corresponding to a given electronic document and outputs the set of the digital signature and the verification data as signature data. A method and system for streaming media objects. A streaming system includes a group of end nodes and at least one core node connected via an overlay network. The end nodes cache segments of media objects and stream the media objects to a client segment by segment. Each end node stores segment indices for locating segments cached on end nodes or a core node in the system. The core node is a dedicated proxy which fetches media objects from a remote media server and streams the media objects to a client when the media objects are unavailable from the end nodes.

A warning device and for monitoring a health status of a bearing mounted to a piece of rotating machinery is provided. The warning device includes a generally cylindrical body portion, an annular top portion, a base portion, and a battery for powering the device. The device has at least one sensor that senses one of a velocity, an enveloped acceleration and a temperature value of the bearing and at least one light emitting diode that displays the health status of the bearing according to input from one of the sensors. An ESD protection circuit for an input / output pad of an IC is disclosed with discharge paths to both a power rail and ground. The ESD circuit is arranged with NMOS and PMOS transistors arranged with their drains connected to the pad. In the prior art, wet-process coke discharging devices have high water consumption during coking, heat cannot be recovered, sewage isgenerated, and semi-coke has overhigh content of moisture but low energy utilization; and in some areas with relatively scarce water resources, wet-process coke discharging devices are limited to water during coking, and development and utilization of oil shale are severely constrained. The above problems are solved by the device of the invention. The device of the invention adapts to imbalance of resource distribution, breaks through water restrictions, is beneficial to development of the oil shale industry, and greatly improves energy utilization rate and reduces pollution.

A technique for providing reliability to an interconnect fabric for communication among a set of nodes. Ports associated with each node are partitioned into a first set of ports and a second set of ports. A first interconnect fabric is formed among the first set of ports for each node in response to a set of flow requirements. A second interconnect fabric is formed among the second set of ports. Reliability is enhanced because, in the event of a failure of any single element of the first interconnect fabric, the flows among the nodes can still be achieved by the second interconnect fabric.
