Location management for radio frequency identification readers

A Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) system for managing and identifying locations for an RFID reader is disclosed. An expected location of a fixed radio frequency identification (RFID) reader is determined. A first signal is transmitted from the reader to a first RFID tag to determine whether the reader is at the expected location. The first tag is a fiducial RFID tag fixed at a first location. In one aspect, the reader receives a first response to the first signal from the first tag. The first response identifies the first location of the first tag. The first location is compared to the expected location. If the first location and the expected location are different, an alarm is triggered.

Lignocellulose fiber composite with soil conditioners

InactiveUS6855182B2Conveniently applyEasily disperseAmmonium nitratesOrganic fertilisersFiber matrixFertilizer
A pellet for use in conditioning soil made of a lignocellulose fiber matrix having up to 20% by weight of a soil conditioning material incorporated therein. The soil conditioning material comprises one or more synthetic soil conditioning polymers and, optionally, additional soil enhancing additives such as fertilizers, gypsum, and calcium salts. The preferred lignocellulose materials are pulp fibers with an alpha-cellulose purity of greater than about 75% by weight, with preferred lignin content of no higher than 10%. The soil conditioning polymers are preferably polyacrylamides (PAMs) or modified PAMs, but may be a combination of other soil conditioning polymers. The pellet is produced by dispersing the polymers into a bath of lignocellulose fibers. The dispersion is then formed into pellets with a pelletizing machine such that the polymer and other soil conditioning material is interspersed within the matrix formed by the pelletized lignocellulose.

Wettability and fluid displacement in a well

An inverter fluid that intermixes with a non-aqueous (e.g., oil) external / aqueous internal fluid to cause external / internal inversion is designed. This includes testing a selected inverter fluid with a test fluid having a composition nominally equivalent to the composition of the non-aqueous external / aqueous internal fluid. A quantity of the designed inverter fluid is made and placed in the annulus of a well, such as an oil or gas well, to remove the non-aqueous external / aqueous internal fluid on at least a portion of one or more surfaces of the annulus. This can include pumping the inverter fluid along with a stream of cement. The inverter fluid displaces at least part of the non-aqueous external / aqueous internal fluid in the annular region and inverts the coating of non-aqueous external / aqueous internal fluid sufficient to remove the coating ahead of the cement. Determining a suitable inverter fluid comprises: measuring a parameter related to electrical conductivity of an initial mixture including (1) a test fluid having a composition nominally equivalent to the non-aqueous external / aqueous internal fluid and (2) part of a selected inverter fluid; and adding a further part of the selected inverter fluid to the initial mixture until the measured parameter indicates the external / internal phases of the test fluid have inverted.

Line handling winch for sailing yachts

A power or manually operated winch mechanism for handling the running rigging lines of a sailing yacht. The winch includes a winding drum, operating in conjunction with a level wind mechanism, which winds and stores the line during line retrieving operations and controllably releases the line when desired. Novel level wind features enable the lines to be appropriately tensioned during retrieval, to assure proper windup of the line in organized coils on the drum. During line release, the line is placed under tension by the level wind mechanism and thus positively drawn from the unwinding winch drum even when the line is not under load from the sail to which it is attached. The arrangement enables lines to be automatically released from one winch and retrieved on a second which, under a common control, as when tacking or resetting the sails of a yacht, all without the necessity of any physical line handling by crew members, resulting in a significant improvement in the safety and convenience of the crew. The new winch mechanism preferably includes a novel alternate arrangement for manual operation of the system in the event of a failure of the power system.

Retractable roof system for vehicles

The present invention is directed to a retractable roof system that provides slidable roof sections for vehicles and truck bed shells / caps, where the cargo area roof panels and rear window panel (hatch above tailgate) may be moved forward and above the seating area roof section, by means of a telescoping track system. Additionally, as applied to vehicles, the roof section above the seating areas may be moved rearward and above the cargo area roof section. The retractable roof system truck bed shell / cap assembly will come in segments that can be stored and shipped in a relatively small container. The shell / cap structure is composed of metal frame members and window panels. Right and left telescoping track assemblies are mounted on the metal frame members, with roof panels secured between them. Side and front window panels are attached to the exterior of the metal frame members to form the shell / cap walls. The rear window panel is attached to the rear roof panel by the means of a hinge and will pivot up onto the rear roof panel before the roof panels are moved forward and above the truck cab. An optional lumber / sport rack set may be mounted to the top of the left and right track assemblies.

Multi-Function Apparatus and Related Method Integrated with Positioning/Orientation Mechanism

Multi-function apparatus and related method integrated with positioning / orientation mechanism. The apparatus of the invention works under a forward mode for recording reference coordinates / altitudes of a departure point and passing points along a track which a user moves. When the user wants to trace back, the apparatus works under a backward mode for comparing each of the recorded reference coordinates / altitudes with a current coordinate / altitude of the user, and providing direction / altitude orientation for the user so that the user can trace back to the original departure and / or passing points.
