System and method for paralleling electrical power generators

A plurality of generators can be connected in parallel to a common electrical bus. Each generator has a controller that regulates the voltage and frequency of the electricity being produced. Before a given generator connects to the electrical bus, its controller senses whether electricity is present on the bus and if not, the connection is made. Otherwise, the controller synchronizes the electricity being produced to the electricity is present on the bus before the connection occurs. The controller in each generator may also implement a load sharing function which ensures that the plurality of generators equitably share in providing the total amount of power demanded by the loads. The load sharing can be accomplished by controlling the generators to operate a substantially identical percentages of their individual maximum power generation capacity.

Test strip for determining concentration of multiple analytes in a single fluid sample

A multilayer test strip that measures concentrations of multiple analytes from a single whole blood sample. The test strip includes a test matrix of several layers held together in constant contact by a test strip holder. The invention is characterized in that it has no moving parts, which is made possible by the novel use of an elongate disbursement layer that spreads blood throughout its entire length, despite having layers with known wicking properties adjacent to and in contact with it. Since the invention relies primarily on a vertical flow format, the test strip is advantageously quite compact. With a single 35 microliter sample of blood applied thereto, the novel test strip can provide readings of total cholesterol, HDL cholesterol and triglycerides. From these, LDL can be calculated, thereby providing a full “lipid panel.” Other analytes such as glucose and ketones may be included in the test strip in addition to or in lieu of one or more of the other analytes.

Interactive User Interface for Converting Unstructured Documents

An interactive interface facilitates the conversion of unstructured documents into XML-compliant documents. A document is parsed to identify fact items in the content of the document. A classifier associates initial labels with an identified fact items, and the fact items and associated initial labels are forwarded to a user for review and correction. An interface executing on a client computer presents the initial labels associated with fact items, and enables a user to correct the labels associated with the identified fact items. Upon receipt of corrected labels from the user, the classifier is trained to update probable associations of labels and fact items in accordance with the corrected labels.

Method of forming vertical field effect transistors with self-aligned gates and gate extensions and the resulting structure

Disclosed is a method of forming an integrated circuit (IC) that incorporates multiple vertical field effect transistors (VFETs) (e.g., in a VFET array). In the method, self-aligned gates for each pair of VFETs and a self-aligned gate extension for contacting those self-aligned gates are essentially simultaneously formed such that the gates wrap around a pair of semiconductor fins, which are in end-to-end alignment, and such that the gate extension fills the space between adjacent ends of those semiconductor fins. By forming self-aligned gates and a self-aligned gate extension for a pair of VFETs, the method avoids the need for lithographically patterning extension cut isolation regions between adjacent pairs of VFETs in a VFET array. Thus, the method enables implementation of VFET array designs with a reduced fin pitch without incurring defects caused, for example, by overlay errors. Also disclosed herein is an IC formed according to the method.

Switch module and lighting control system comprising the switch module

A switch module is designed to facilitate user definition of a group of switch modules that control the same lamp. A lamp unit (12) containing the lamp responds selectively to messages from the switch modules (10, 10′) when the messages comprise ID information matching with ID information stored in the lamp unit (12). A group is formed by detecting user control operation of sensors (100) in the switch modules (10, 10′), transmitting messages from the switch modules (10, 10′) in response and determining from the messages whether the switch modules (10′) have both been operated within a time interval with a duration of less than a predetermined threshold. If so, the ID information value in memories (104) of the switch module (10) and / or the further switch module (10′) are set to matching ID values, for use in the messages to control the lamp unit.
