Apparatus, system, and method for dynamic selection of best network service

An apparatus, system, and process are disclosed for dynamically determining a best network service for an electronic computing device. A network query module queries two or more active networks to determine the network characteristics, such as bandwidth, security level, and cost, of each network. A service level module determines a service level associated with each active network. The service level is determined based on an algorithm using the network characteristics of each network. A best network module determines the best network from the active networks based on the service levels of each network, and a network connection module dynamically connects the electronic computing device to the best network. The network selection apparatus may also maintain and use a profile module to store default, user-defined, application, and network profiles. A dynamic switching module may dynamically switch between active networks as the service levels of individual networks are re-evaluated and the network characteristics of each network change.

System and method for generating multiple synchronized encoded representations of media data

The present invention provides a system and methods for producing multiple encoded representations of a video input sequence. The multiple representations produced each contain identified synchronization frames that allow a server and a client to switch between streamed representations in real time without interruption. Synchronization frames are frames of encoded video that can be independently decoded. A representation can thus be decoded starting at a synchronization frame. Each synchronization frame in one representation has a corresponding synchronization frame at a substantially similar temporal location in any other generated representation of the same video input sequence. The temporal co-location of synchronization frames in all representations facilitates the dynamic switching between representations during the streaming process. The present invention also provides a video encoder application that shares data during the encoding of multiple representations of a video input sequence by reusing data calculated in the encoding of one representation to encode other representations. The application can also generate the multiple encoded representations simultaneously.

Dynamically switched and static multiple video streams for a multimedia conference

An end station for a videoconference / multimedia conference is disclosed, where the end station requests, receives and displays multiple video streams. Call control messages request video streams with specified video policies. A static policy specifies a constant source video stream, e.g., a participant. A dynamic policy dynamically maps various source streams to a requested stream and shows, for example, the current speaker, or a round robin of participants. A network access device, e.g., a media switch or a video composition system, mediates between the multi-stream end station and the core conference system. Multi-stream endpoints need not handle the complexity of directly receiving video according to a potentially wide variety of call control protocols, formats, and bit-rates. Multi-stream endpoints decentralize compositing video streams, which increases functional flexibility and reduces the need for centralized equipment.

Dynamic switching between MLSE and linear equalizer for single antenna interference cancellation in a GSM communication system

In a GSM / EDGE Single Antenna Interference Cancellation (SAIC) operation environment, a mobile station is required to operate in a wide range of interference levels. An SAIC linear equalizer that takes advantage of the GMSK signal structure performs better than a conventional Maximum Likelihood Sequence Estimation (MLSE) equalizer in high interference levels, while it performs worse in low interference levels. A dynamic selection between the SAIC linear equalizer and the MLSE equalizer for each received burst is achieved to provide the optimal performance across the entire required operation environments. The dynamic selection is based on the estimated noise plus interference energy relative to the total received signal energy. The soft information calculated by the two categories of equalizers is properly scaled to generate soft information with balanced magnitude.

System and method for communicating using bandwidth on demand

A system and method for dynamically changing the quality of service (QoS) for a subscriber of a cellular radio system. Bandwidth-on-Demand (BoD) enables the subscriber to dynamically switch to higher bandwidth and to enable a higher throughput. This may be for a limited time or amount of data, for example. The initiation may be by the subscriber, carrier, sponsor, or automatically by an application. The QoS increase may be dynamically priced in a kind of auction. The wireless device may contact the policy servers of a multiple network operator (MNO), which in turn contacts the Authentication, Authorization and Accounting (AAA) server in the MNO's core network. The policy server contacts the scheduler on the serving basestation which then determines whether to allocate more resources (i.e. bandwidth in the form of subcarriers, resource blocks, resource elements, timeslots) to the subscriber. The initiation may start a timer or data counter.

Multi-channel echo cancellation with round robin regularization

InactiveUS20060002547A1Efficient reinitialization of the RLS algorithmTwo-way loud-speaking telephone systemsSpeech analysisInverse correlationAdaptive filter
A method and system of multi-channel echo cancellation using round robin regularization. The multi-channel round robin regularization echo cancellation method includes applying a plurality of adaptive filters, each having an inverse correlation matrix, to the multi-channel playback signal. Each of the plurality of adaptive filters is selected in a round robin sequence, so that every round each of the filters is selected. The inverse correlation matrix associated with each selected adaptive filter then is regularized as needed. The regularized adaptive filter then is used to remove the echo of the multi-channel playback signal from a captured signal. Regularization is implemented in a round robin manner to ensure that each subband is selected so that the adaptive filter for that subband can be examined. Other features of the multi-channel echo cancellation system and method include dynamic switching between monaural and multi-channel echo cancellation and mixed processing for lower and upper subbands.
