Occupancy sensor and method for home automation system

A room occupancy sensor, a home automation system and a method for automatic control of controlled devices throughout a home. A unique architecture of occupancy sensors includes entry / exit sensors for detecting movement through doorways that separate rooms in the home, room motion sensors for detecting room occupancy, spot sensors to detect occupancy of specific locations within the rooms, and house status sensors to detect the status of certain parameters of the home. A central controller communicates with the sensors and controlled objects over a communications network, where the sensors and controlled objects can be added to the system in a ‘plug and play’ manner. The central controller controls the controlled objects in response to the entry / exit sensors, room motion sensors, spot sensors and the house status sensors. This control is accomplished by assigning each room to one of a plurality of room states, which dictate how the controlled objects are controlled by the central controller. The controlled objects also have controlled object states, which are used by the central controller to control the controlled objects. The room occupancy sensors have a sensitivity that is automatically adjusted based upon temperature measurements, and the number and timing of occupancy detections.

The fiber optic switch includes a plurality of fiber optic lines which direct the output of the laser to well-defined regions on the suspensions in a disk drive. Irradiation of the suspension by the laser causes a load change which alters the static attitude change in the slider. In the method of the present invention, the initial gram load or static attitude is measured by the measurement apparatus and the control means calculates how much energy is required to cause the change needed to achieve the desired condition. Other information, such as the type of laser to be used is also specified by the control means. The laser then delivers output to the suspension through the fiber optic line having an angled end and the static attitude or gram load is remeasured to determine if additional adjustment is required.

Fault-tolerant sliding-mode control method for near-space vehicle

The invention discloses a fault-tolerant sliding-mode control method for a near-space vehicle. According to the fault-tolerant sliding-mode control method for the near-space vehicle, for the situation that the order of the magnitude of external disturbance in a quick loop and slow loop system is greatly larger than the order of the magnitude of uncertain times of the system, the nonlinear disturbance observer technology is used for processing hybrid disturbance, and unknown hybrid disturbance is estimated by a disturbance observer through known system information; in order to solve the problem that saturation of the control surface of the near-space vehicle is limited, the upper bound of the deflection angle output of a steering engine is applied to design of a control law, it is guaranteed that the input is within a certain range, auxiliary variables are designed, the deflection angle output of the steering engine is automatically adjusted through the self-adaption law, and therefore the situation that when the upper bound of the deflection angle is too large, the output is too large is avoided; a compensator is established through a radial basis function neural network and is used for fault-tolerant compensation when the steering engine breaks down, and therefore the problem that the steering engine of the near-space vehicle breaks down is solved. By the adoption of the fault-tolerant sliding-mode control method for the near-space vehicle, under the conditions of system uncertainties, unknown external disturbance, limited input saturation and a fault of the steering engine, the near-space vehicle has good control performance.

The temperature of each individual heated area can be regulated automatically by adjusting the output of its heating zone whereby printed substrates having a more even temperature profile are delivered. In an alternate manual mode any zone can be set independently to operate at any percentage of full available power from zero to 100%. Separate high velocity air scrubbers and additional air extraction are used to enhance the total drying effect of the zoned dryer assembly.

An audio amplifier is provided having a compressor with an automatically-adjustable compressor. Compression is linked to the volume control in an inverse relationship whereby, when the volume is reduced, the compression ratio is increased to boost the listening level of quieter passages in the source material. Conversely, when the volume is increased, the compression ratio is decreased. The compression control may be physically connected to the volume control, such as in a dual-potentiometer, or may be coupled electronically, such as with a digital signal processor. An effects level control may be included to allow a listener to increase or decrease the effect of the compression by applying a multiplier to the compression ratio. An ambient noise detector may also be included such that compression is increased as ambient noise increases or exceeds a predetermined level.
