L4 lookup implementation using efficient CAM organization

A method of segmenting Layer 4 packet routing lookups into multiple levels for sequential search in multiple tables provided in a specially organized memory device, such as a content addressable memory (CAM). Using a sequence of limited-width keys, a single CAM (or length-cascaded bank of CAMs) can be tuned to provided faster and more efficient use of limited CAM space. Lookups used to process continuous streams of packets (such as those in the Internet Protocol [IP] format) can be performed with the present invention in either one-packet-at-a-time sequential order or in a pipelined fashion. Packet streams arriving on multiple ports of the switch device can also take advantage of time division multiplexing to employ a single search engine embodying the present invention.

Method and apparatus for ion manipulation using mesh in a radio frequency field

Ion manipulation systems include ion repulsion by an RF field penetrating through a mesh. Another comprises trapping ions in a symmetric RF field around a mesh. The system uses macroscopic parts, or readily available fine meshes, or miniaturized devices made by MEMS, or flexible PCB methods. One application is ion transfer from gaseous ion sources with focusing at intermediate and elevated gas pressures. Another application is the formation of pulsed ion packets for TOF MS within trap array. Such trapping is preferably accompanied by pulsed switching of RF field and by gas pulses, preferably formed by pulsed vapor desorption. Ion guidance, ion flow manipulation, trapping, preparation of pulsed ion packets, confining ions during fragmentation or exposure to ion to particle reactions and for mass separation are disclosed. Ion chromatography employs an ion passage within a gas flow and through a set of multiple traps with a mass dependent well depth.

Method and apparatus for forming millimeter wave phased array antenna

A phased array antenna system having a corporate waveguide distribution network stripline printed circuit board. The stripline printed circuit board receives electromagnetic (EM) wave energy from a 1×4 waveguide distribution network input plate and distributes the EM wave energy to 524 radiating elements. The stripline circuit board enables extremely tight spacing of independent antenna radiating elements that would not be possible with a rectangular air filled waveguide. The antenna system enables operation at millimeter wave frequencies, and particularly at 44 GHz, and without requiring the use of a plurality of look-up tables for various phase and amplitude delays, that would otherwise be required with a rectangular, air-filled waveguide distribution structure. The antenna system can be used at millimeter wave frequencies, and in connection with the MILSTAR communications protocol, without the requirement of knowing, in advance, the next beam hopping frequency employed by the MILSTAR protocol.

Two-Wheeled Gyroscope-Stabilized Vehicle and Methods for Controlling Thereof

A two-wheel gyroscope-stabilized vehicle includes a stabilizing gyroscope, having a gyroscope frame and a gyroscope rotor rotatably mounted in the frame. The gyroscope frame is free to rotate relative to the vehicle body. The vehicle further comprises a support structure that connects the vehicle body and the vehicle wheels, wherein the supporting structure is adapted to move the wheels independently in relation to each other and to move the wheels in relation to the body independently thereof. The support structure helps to keep the vehicle stable when riding on rough terrain. Balancing of the vehicle is provided by maintaining a right angle between the axis of rotation of the gyroscope rotor and direction of the vehicle movement by means of the control system through changing the difference of rotation velocities of the wheels. Steering of the vehicle is provided by means of applying the roll control force to the body.

Ratchet extraction wrench

A combination ratchet wrench having a standard open-type or box-type wrench at one end thereof and a ratcheting extraction box at the other end thereof. The ratchet extraction wrench box is connected by a ratcheting mechanism to the wrench that allows rotation of the ratchet extraction wrench box relative to the wrench only in one direction. The ratchet extraction wrench box is provided with a fastener extraction head that has an interior bore extending inwardly from a receiving end. The bore has a plurality of helically-shaped grooves, each extending from the receiving end and curve radially and inwardly towards the central axis of the bore to form sharp ridges that extend in a helical fashion inside the bore. When the fastener extraction is placed over a fastener head, the ridges “bite” into the material of the fastener. Because the extraction head is formed as an integral part of the wrench there is no need to have a separate turning tool. Because a separate torque producing tool is not required and the wrench has a narrow profile, the extraction wrench can be used in tight spaces.

Range imaging devices and methods

An array of laser diode emitters is used as an illumination source for a range imaging system. The laser diode emitters are disposed on a common substrate. When one of the emitters fails, the remaining emitters emit enough light to meet the output optical power specification. The emitters can be disposed with a tight spacing. The tight spacing facilitates packaging of the entire array into a compact single package on a common heat sink.

Optical Fibers Functionalized with Photonic Crystal Resonant Optical Structures

A photonic crystal (PC) device including one or more resonant optical structures defined by the photonic crystal structure is affixed to the end face of an optical fiber. The PC device is fabricated on a separate substrate, and then affixed to the fiber end face. This transfer can be facilitated by device templates which are laterally supported by tabs after an undercut etch. The tabs can be designed to break during transfer to the fiber, thereby facilitating transfer. Registration marks and / or the use of device templates having the same diameter as the fiber can be used to provide lateral alignment of the fiber to the resonant optical structures. Such alignment may be needed to provide optical coupling between the fiber and the resonant optical structures.
