Bandwidth-efficient concatenated trellis-coded modulation decoder and decoding method thereof

A bandwidth-efficient concatenated trellis-coded modulation (TCM) decoder which is realized by combining turbo codes having an advantage of coping effectively with a fading channel with TCM having an advantage of bandwidth efficiency, and a decoding method thereof are provided. A conventional TCM method has high bandwidth efficiency suitable for transmitting information at high speed. However, it is very sensitive to InterSymbol interference (ISI) so it is usually applied to a wire communication system rather than to a wireless communication system. A turbo code method is an error correction encoding method showing steadiness in a channel having severe ISI and having an excellent error correction ability, but has drawbacks of low data transmission rate and low bandwidth efficiency due to a low code rate. Bandwidth-efficient concatenated TCM is provided for enhancing the steadiness against ISI and-improving power and bandwidth efficiency by applying the turbo code method to a TCM having a code rate of m / (m+1) to compensate for the drawbacks of the conventional TCM and turbo codes. A newly provided decoding method in bandwidth-efficient concatenated TCM uses a SOVA algorithm, thereby reducing decoder complexity and path memory. In addition, bandwidth-efficient concatenated TCM encoder and decoder are provided such to have parallel transition, thereby reducing the complexity of the bandwidth-efficient concatenated TCM decoder. Therefore, the Bandwidth-efficient concatenated TCM is applied to a high speed wireless communication system and can increase bandwidth efficiency and coding gain.

Method and apparatus for concatenated channel coding with variable code rate and coding gain in a data transmission system

A novel method and apparatus for efficiently coding and decoding data in a data transmission system is described. A concatenated coding scheme is presented that is easily implemented, and that provides acceptable coding performance characteristics for use in data transmission systems. The inventive concatenated channel coding technique is well suited for small or variable size packet data transmission systems. The technique may also be adapted for use in a continuous mode data transmission system. The method and apparatus reduces the complexity, cost, size and power consumption typically associated with the prior art channel coding methods and apparatuses, while still achieving acceptable coding performance. The present invention advantageously performs concatenated channel coding without the necessity of a symbol interleaver. In addition, the present invention is simple to implement and thereby consumes much less space and power that do the prior art approaches. The present invention not only eliminates the need for a symbol interleaver between the outer and inner codes, but it also enjoys a drastically reduced implementation complexity of the inner code Viterbi decoder. The preferred embodiment of the present invention comprises an inner code having short length block codes derived from short constraint length convolutional codes utilizing trellis tailbiting and a decoder comprising four four-state Viterbi decoders having a short corresponding maximum length. The inner code preferably comprises short block codes derived from four-state (i.e., constraint length 3), nonsystematic, punctured and unpunctured convolutional code. One significant advantage of the preferred embodiment of the present concatenated coding technique is that packet data transmission systems can be designed to have variable coding gains and coding rates.

The invention discloses a polarized SAR polarization method based on sparse K-SVD (Singular Value Decomposition) and mainly solves the problems in the prior art of redundancy between SAR image channels, and reconstructed image blurring and texture detail losing when the compression ratio is excessive. The polarized SAR polarization method includes the following steps: (1) inputting images, and conducting DCT (Discrete Cosine Transformation) on the image channels; (2) conducting 9 / 7 wavelet decomposition on each channel; (3) inputting the coefficients obtained through decomposition into a training dictionary in a K-SVD algorithm; (4) conducting sparse representation on the images through the dictionary; (5) conducting coding pre-processing on sparse coefficients; (6) coding the sparse coefficients already subject to coding pre-processing and outputting code streams. The polarized SAR polarization method effectively removes redundancy between the SAR image channels, keeps texture details of the compressed and reconstructed result images, generates a better visual effect of the reconstructed images, and can be used for storage and transmission of polarized SAR images.
