This invention provides a thermal energy battery having an insulated tank contains a multitude of densely packed plastic tubes filled with a phase-change material (PCM, such as ice) that changes from solid to liquid and vice-versa. Energy is stored when the PCM transitions from liquid to solid form, and released when the PCM transitions back from solid to liquid form. The tubes are arranged vertically, span the height of a well-insulated tank, and are immersed in heat transfer fluid (HTF) contained within the tank. The HTF is an aqueous solution with a freezing point temperature below the freezing point temperature of the chosen PCM. The HTF remains in liquid form at all times during the operation of the battery. Diffusers located allow the HTF to be extracted uniformly from the tank, pumped and cooled by a liquid chiller situated outside the tank and then and inserted back into the tank.

Loop-type heat exchange device

A loop-type heat exchange device (10) is disclosed, which includes an evaporator (20), a condenser (40), a vapor conduit (30) and a liquid conduit (50). The evaporator contains therein a working fluid. The working fluid in the evaporator evaporates into vapor after absorbing heat, and the generated vapor flows, via the vapor conduit, to the condenser where the vapor releases its latent heat of evaporation and is condensed into condensate. The condensate then returns back, via the liquid conduit, to the evaporator to thereby form a heat transfer loop. The condenser defines therein a chamber, and a plurality of heat-exchange pins is provided inside the chamber for effectively exchanging heat with the vapor entering into the condenser.

A heat exchanger having excellent heat exchanging performance is obtainable by a simple production technique and at a low cost. This is achieved by providing a fin member and by increasing heat conductivity between the fin member and a meandering pipe body. Engagement grooves are provided in both end surfaces, which are opposite to each other, of a fin member in which fins are parallel arranged. A pair of meandering sections is arranged opposite to each other with an insertion gap of the fin member in between. On of the meandering sections and the other meandering section are connected by a connection pipe to form a meandering pipe main body. The straight pipe sections of the one meandering section are arranged in the engagement grooves in the one end surface of the fin member inserted and arranged in the insertion gap between the one meandering section and the other meandering section of the meandering pipe body, and the straight pipe sections of the other meandering section are arranged and fixed in the engagement grooves in the other end surface.

The electron acceleration layer (8) is made at least partially of an insulating material. As a result, the heat exchanger (1) has a heat exchange capability which can be maintained and improved independently of a structure in which electric field concentration tends to occur.

The invention provides a heat pump-type hot-water supply device which includes a heat source-side heat pump unit having a radiation heat exchanger for radiating heat from refrigerant by condensing therefrigerant.
