Method and apparatus for election of group leaders in a distributed network

The present invention provides a system and apparatus for efficient and reliable, control and distribution of data files in large-scale distributed networks. The members of a group of servers in a multicast network elect a group leader whenever a new group leader is required, as when the prior group leader become unavailable, as detected by absence of a periodic heartbeat message published by the leader. The election is carried out by a system of voting by each candidate whereby each candidate has a priority calculated from its configuration, and the server with the highest priority is configured to claim the leadership faster than the other candidates. As part of the claim, each candidate multicasts its priority. Each candidate that receives a multicast claim for leadership from another candidate compares its own priority against the claimant and only votes for itself if its own priority is higher. After a preconfigured period of hearing no other claimants with higher priority, the candidate with the highest priority becomes the new leader.

Method and system for transmitting data in a communication system

A method and system are provided for transmitting data in a multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) communication system. A receiver sets the number of sub-streams of each column of a preceding matrix with respect to all precoding matrices of channels formed between the receiver and a transmitter and measures channel states with respect to sub-stream combinations whose number is equivalent to the number of set sub-streams. The receiver transmits data according to channel states to the transmitter after measuring the channel states with respect to the sub-stream combinations and antenna combinations representing sub-streams used upon data transmission of all the precoding matrices.

High speed multiple loop DSL system

A DSL system includes a multiple loop segment where K loops are bonded to provide a multiple loop segment having up to (2K−1) communication channels on which transmissions are vectored. The segment may be a drop to a customer premises, an inter-pedestal link, or any other suitable part of a larger DSL system. Generally the bonded loops are relatively short, being 300 meters or less. Signal vectoring is used to increase the speed and data carrying capability of the channels. In some embodiments, an expanded frequency spectrum also can be used to increase the data carrying capability of one or more of the channels. An impedance matching circuit may be coupled to each end of the segment to provided efficient transmission of data across the segment. A controller may provide control signals used to operate the segment as a vectored system and, if desired, frequency bandwidth control signals. The controller may monitor and / or collect data and information from the DSL system to assist in generating control signals. The controller can be a dynamic spectrum manager or DSM Center that includes a computer system and / or other hardware to assist in performing the required functions.

Delayed transmission of website usage data

User behavior on a website, including intra-page interactions, are tracked while avoiding the need to transmit each intra-page interaction to the data collection server via a separate request. Client-side code instructs the client to store intra-page interaction data in a local data store such as a cookie file. The client transmits the accumulated data to the data collection server in response to a triggering event. For example, data may be transmitted when a new page is loaded, or when the web browser application crashes or is terminated, or when the client machine is turned off, or at periodic intervals, or in response to any other type of triggering event.

When retransmission requests are issued based on the results of error-correction decoding of received data packets to perform data transmission, statistical information indicating whether received data packets have been successfully decoded or have not been decoded is acquired, and based on the rate at which correct decoding has been made or the rate at which correct decoding has not been made, which is obtained from the statistical information, a request is transmitted to the transmission source to change the window size, which is the number of data units handled in a predetermined layer, so that when for example the communication environment is not excellent, processing can be performed at a small window size, and the occurrence of circumstances in which data retransmission and the discarding of received data are repeated can be efficiently prevented. Accordingly, data transmission efficiency in a wireless transmission system performing high-speed data transmission is improved under conditions of a poor radio wave environment.

Communication method in mobile communication system, and mobile station and base station in the same system

The present method adds uplink data to a transmission request sent to the base station from the mobile station for obtaining permission for data transmission, or to a channel establishment request sent from the mobile station to the base station for establishing a channel in order to send the transmission request therethrough. This makes it possible to suppress delay caused by negotiation prior to actual uplink data transmission as much as possible, thereby realizing efficient uplink data transmission, that is, improved throughput of uplink communication.

Data transmission method

In a data transmission method of the present invention, not only when relay of input packets is performed but also transmission of a retransmission packet or a correction packet is performed, changes in an output rate due to output rate control is suppressed, and data transmission is efficiently performed according to a capacity of an output channel. A data transmission device comprises a packet priority decision unit 15 for deciding priorities of input packets, a retransmission packet, and an FEC packet, an output delay calculation unit 17 for calculating a delay time until data of the respective packets is reproduced by a receiving terminal, and an FEC packet generation unit 19 for generating an FEC packet containing an error correcting code which corresponds to a packet designated on the basis of the priorities of the respective packets. When transmission of the retransmission packet and the FEC packet together with the input packets is performed, lower priority packets corresponding to a size of packets which are additionally transmitted are thinned out.

Technique for coupling entities via virtual ports

A technique transfers data between geographically dispersed entities belonging to a virtual-local-area network (VLAN). According to the technique, geographically dispersed entities communicate via software-defined virtual ports that “appear” as physical ports to the entities. Each virtual port, in turn, is associated with one or more connections wherein each connection may be associated with one or more VLANs. Data generated on a particular VLAN that is destined for a remote entity is forwarded to a virtual port which, in turn, transfers the data to the remote entity over the connection associated with the VLAN. Moreover, state is maintained at each virtual port for each connection, thereby enabling the virtual ports to support various protocols that operate with physical ports.
