Luminous lamp having an ultraviolet filtering and explosion proof thin film

A luminous lamp having an ultraviolet filtering and explosion-proof thin film is disclosed. An outside of a lamp is coated by a transparent layer which comprises phosphor powder. Energy generated by the lamp is absorbed by the phosphor powder while the lamp is shining. The phosphor powder would release energy to shot brilliance, so as to provide auxiliary lighting after turning off the lamp. Additionally, the phosphor powder can absorb harmful ultraviolet and other harmful radiations with shorter wavelengths to be one part of the thin film for filtering harmful radiations. The harmful ultraviolet can be transformed by the phosphor powder into visible light to red shift radiations with short wavelengths; hence the harmful radiations with shorter wavelengths can be eliminated. The illumination of visible light can be further increased. The transparent layer can catch broken fragments of the outside of the lamp to decrease accidents when the lamp is broken.

A semiconductor light emitting device with improved luminous efficiency is provided. An underlying n-type GaN layer is grown on a sapphire substrate, and a growth mask made from SiO2 film or the like is formed on the underlying n-type GaN layer. An n-type GaN layer having a hexagonal pyramid shape is selectively grown on a portion, exposed from an opening of the growth mask, of the underlying n-type GaN layer. The growth mask is removed by etching, and then an active layer and a p-type GaN layer are sequentially grown on the entire substrate so as to cover the hexagonal pyramid shaped n-type GaN layer, to form a light emitting device. An n-side electrode and a p-side electrode are then formed.

High efficiency light source with integrated ballast

The present invention relates to regulated power supplies or ballasts integrated with an LED light source. The invention provides a power factor correction scheme producing a greater circuit power factor and improved frequency spectrum characteristics, in which a voltage corresponding to the instantaneous inductor current is sampled and compared to a scaled sample of the rectified input AC line voltage. The line voltage sample modulates the inductor peak charge current in the envelope of the rectified AC voltage waveform. This drives the LED output voltage at a frequency of twice the input line voltage frequency, such that no flicker is perceived in the light output because the persistence in LED phosphor assists in averaging the flux output.

More specifically, the invention involves the use of disposable cannula and slender dilators of variable lengths, which incorporate a source of illumination to carry light to a surgical site and video capabilities for capturing and displaying images from a CMOS or CCD camera device. According to one embodiment, fiber optics run semi-circumferentially or along walls of the cannula / dilator and terminate at about a centimeter from the distal end of the cannula / dilator, thereby preventing illumination from “bottoming out” at the floor of the incision. According to one alternate embodiment, the light fibers may be fashioned in an annulus around one or more camera chips to provide illumination and video of the surgical site. In still another embodiment, the light fibers may be replaced by light emitting diodes in a more remote light source or alternatively at the distal-tip of the CMOS or CCD camera device.
