Ladar sensor for a dense environment

A multi-ladar sensor system is proposed for operating in dense environments where many ladar sensors are transmitting and receiving burst mode light in the same space, as may be typical of an automotive application. The system makes use of several techniques to reduce mutual interference between independently operating ladar sensors. In one embodiment, the individual ladar sensors are each assigned a wavelength of operation, and an optical receive filter for blocking the light transmitted at other wavelengths, an example of wavelength division multiplexing (WDM). Each ladar sensor, or platform, may also be assigned a pulse width selected from a list, and may use a pulse width discriminator circuit to separate pulses of interest from the clutter of other transmitters. Higher level coding, involving pulse sequences and code sequence correlation, may be implemented in a system of code division multiplexing, CDM. A digital processor optimized to execute mathematical operations is described which has a hardware implemented floating point divider, allowing for real time processing of received ladar pulses, and sequences of pulses.

Space-time processing for multiple-input, multiple-output, wireless systems

In a MIMO system the signals transmitted from the various antennas are processed so as to improve the ability of the receiver to extract them from the received signal even in the face of some correlation. More specifically the number of bit streams that is transmitted simultaneously is adjusted, e.g., reduced, depending on the level of correlation, while multiple versions of each bit stream, variously weighted, are transmitted simultaneously. The variously weighted versions are combined to produced one combined weighted signal. The receiver processes the received signals in the same manner as it would have had all the signals reaching the receive antennas been uncorrelated. The weight vectors may be determined by the forward channel transmitter using the channel properties of the forward link which are made known to the transmitter of the forward link by being transmitted from the receiver of the forward link by the transmitter of the reverse link or the weight vectors may be determined by the forward channel transmitter using the channel properties of the forward link and the determined weight vectors are made known to the transmitter of the forward link by being transmitted from the receiver of the forward link by the transmitter of the reverse link. The channel properties used to determine the weight vectors may include the channel response from the transmitter to the receiver and the covariance matrix of noise and interference measured at the receiver.

System and method for significant dust detection and enhancement of dust images over land and ocean

A new processing capability for dust enhancement over land or water using image data from the Sea-viewing Wide Field of View Sensor (SeaWiFS) has been developed for Naval meteorology / oceanography (MetOc) operations support. The data are captured via direct broadcast high-resolution picture transmission (HRPT) at Navy Regional Centers in Rota, Bahrain, and Yokosuka, and processed at the Naval Research Laboratory in Monterey. The raw data are calibrated, corrected for missing lines and clutter, corrected for molecular scatter contamination, and enhanced through multispectral combination to yield value added products. The processing has been automated completely such that products, generated upon receipt of data, are hosted upon a password protected website typically 60 to 90 minutes from time of initial capture. This invention summarizes the SeaWiFS instrument capabilities, the protocol followed for automated near real-time processing, a physical basis for the NRL enhancements, and specific examples of the products with extension to over-land dust enhancement as enabled by MODIS. It closes with a glimpse of the potential utility of these products from the perspective of the warfighter.

Vehicle tracking, communication and fleet management system

A vehicle fleet management information system identifies location and direction of movement of each vehicle in a fleet in real-time, and automatically reports such information, as well as status of predetermined events in which the vehicle is engaged, directly to the fleet manager. Each fleet vehicle has an assigned time slot to transmit its reporting information over a communications network without interfering with transmissions from other vehicles in their own respective time slots. A timing control phase lock loop (PLL) provides precise time synchronization for timing corrections from a global positioning system (GPS) based time reference. A dual band full-duplex interface of the network has TDMA on one-half and broadcast on the other half. Microprocessor time processing units in components of the network perform precise clock synchronization. Space diversity performed on received vehicle transmitted messages avoids data corruption. Different vehicles have different periodic transmission intervals, by dynamically allocating the slots for various update rates. Auxiliary reporting slots enable prompt reporting of important data by the respective vehicle transmitters independent of the slower periodic transmission intervals.

Iris image-based recognition system

The present invention is to identify an individual from his or her iris captured from an imaging system. Basically the system can be divided into two processes, which are enrollment and verification. Each process consists of four steps. Both processes share the three beginning steps, which are image acquisition, image processing, and feature extraction. Image acquisition is to capture the real iris image of a user. Then image processing is applied to the acquired image. In the next step, the textural information of an iris image is generated into a signature in a process called feature extraction. For an enrollment process, the extracted iris signature will be stored in database for the future use of verification. In a verification process, the last step is to compare the iris signature generated from real time processing with the signatures previously stored. A final decision will be made to determine whether the user is successfully identified or not. The present invention introduces two new methods in the iris recognition algorithm. First, a new method called maximum vote finding method that is used during iris image processing was developed to reduce the time required for localization of inner iris after applying Hough Transform for localization of outer iris. Second, an iris signature based on fractal dimension characterization which is a novel approach used in iris feature extraction process was developed to provide satisfactory matching accuracy of iris images.

Efficient sharing of memory between applications running under different operating systems on a shared hardware system

A system, method and computer program product for efficient sharing of memory between first and second applications running under first and second operating systems on a shared hardware system. The hardware system runs a hypervisor that supports concurrent execution of the first and second operating systems, and further includes a region of shared memory managed on behalf of the first and second applications. Techniques are used to avoid preemption when the first application is accessing the shared memory region. In this way, the second application will not be unduly delayed when attempting to access the shared memory region due to delays stemming from the first application's access of the shared memory region. This is especially advantageous when the second application and operating system are adapted for real-time processing. Additional benefits can be obtained by taking steps to minimize memory access faults.

SoC power management ensuring real-time processing

A chip (1) includes: a resource manager (2); various kinds of functional blocks (3-6); a thermal sensor (13); and a performance counter (15). The resource manager manages tasks that the functional blocks execute, and determines a task progress (38) for each task from an activated ratio (α) provided from the performance counter and a deadline (39) contained in task information (33) and decides priority of each task. When the temperature detected by the thermal sensor during execution of a task is not less than a threshold (T_max), the resource manager reads out a power consumption budget (P_max) from a memory (9) which has been set to make the temperature below the threshold, and stops the clock fed to the functional block executing a task having a lower priority or lowers the frequency of the clock until a chip power consumption value (p_sum) becomes smaller than the power consumption budget.

Process of fabricating a workpiece using a test mask

A product workpiece can be processed to form product dice. A test mask can allow intentional changes to be made to a feature on the product workpiece to examine how the altered feature performs. Use of the test mask may be used or not used based on the needs or desires of skilled artisans. By using the test mask, a separate dedicated test structure is not required to be formed in a scribe lane or within an area that could otherwise be used for a product die. Thus, the sampling level by using the test mask can be varied. Also, separate test workpieces, which may not be processed using a significantly different process flow or at significantly different times as compared to product workpieces, are not required. The product workpiece with the altered feature can be electrically tested without the need to form test or bond pads.
