Floating, yawing spar current/tidal turbine

ActiveUS20150260148A1Capture more energyMinimal heaveOptimise machine performanceWaterborne vesselsKeelSpar buoy
The present invention describes a floating yawing spar buoy current / tidal turbine. The spar includes a spreader above the rotor(s) with the spreader tips connected to fore and aft cable yokes that transition to opposing mooring lines connected to anchors on the seabed. The spreader comprises a yaw motor, which drives gears that engage with a ring gear fixed to the outer perimeter of the spar. Flow direction sensors activate the yaw motor for automatic yaw adjustments of the spar turbine. As tidal direction changes, the entire spar and turbine are yawed to maintain the rotor plane facing the tidal flow. The bottom end of the spar extends to approximately the bottom sweep of the rotor plane and contains a winched vertical mooring line, extending to the seabed and attached to a gravity or suction pile anchor. The turbine drive train can be accessed for servicing from the surface via hatches and ladders within the spar to enter the drive train and generating system vessel. The spar turbine is deployed by towing it in a horizontal position. At the operating site, the yokes are connected to the forward and aft mooring lines and the winch line is connected to the gravity anchor. The winch inside the keel draws the bottom end of the spar down and may be assisted by flooding the keel to reach a vertical position for the spar. The winch is then locked to retain required operating depth, or can actively control operating depth in areas of wide tide level range.

Device for power generation with large flow rate by small water-level difference

As for the floodgate which it flows into one-way from a tide level, the High Water Source flowing in is made, and the Low Water Source flowing out is made. A tank is located between these Water Sources, repetition of the feed water from a high-water level, and the drain to a low-water level, it generates electricity by rotating a air turbine by the pressure in a Tank. As for the method of the improvement in efficiency, a turbine is set to Air Duct between two sets of tanks, the double electric power is obtained by interlocking with opposite feed water and drain. Moreover, the variation of electric power is improved by shifting the cycle of the tank of parallel movement. And it responds to water level in a tank, the stable production of electricity is obtained by the drive of selection of the turbine of the capacity difference of a parallel drive. If this mechanism is opened and closed with the underwater valve of a big flow, it becomes possible to obtain the big electric power. The underwater valve of the Specific-gravity near water is made into locking mechanism, locking is canceled at the case of opening, the valve closed by own weight when a stream stops, thereby, a big flow is made to control with energy conservation. Moreover, there is attachment of efficiency improvement mechanism and the increase difference mechanism of Water Sources in this invention.

The invention relates to a platform device capable of being used for large-scale wave power generation and belongs to the field of ocean energy equipment. The platform device capable of being used for large-scale wave power generation comprises a hydraulic energy storage system, pile legs, hydraulic cylinders, a floating platform, pile sleeves and pontoons. The multiple pile legs are hit into a marine foundation, the pile legs are sleeved with the pile sleeves, the floating platform is fixed to the pile sleeves, the multiple hydraulic cylinders are installed on the floating platform, the hydraulic energy storage system is installed beside the hydraulic cylinders, and the pontoons are installed on telescopic rods of the hydraulic cylinders. The pile sleeves are in clearance fit with the pile legs. The pile sleeves are in the type of hollow rings and provide buoyancy for the floating platform. The floating platform is of a cuboid box type structure. All the hydraulic cylinders are short-range telescopic hydraulic cylinders to increase the rigidity and the wind wave resistance of the telescopic rods. The platform device solves the problem about control and adaptation of the tide level difference in the wave power generation process, effectively solves the problem that an existing power generating platform cannot change along with changes of the tide level and is suitable for a multi-pontoon power generating set of a high-power unit.
