119 results about "Symmetric digital subscriber line" patented technology

A symmetric digital subscriber line (SDSL) is a digital subscriber line (DSL) that transmits digital data over the copper wires of the telephone network, where the bandwidth in the downstream direction, from the network to the subscriber, is identical to the bandwidth in the upstream direction, from the subscriber to the network. This symmetric bandwidth can be considered to be the opposite of the asymmetric bandwidth offered by asymmetric digital subscriber line (ADSL) technologies, where the upstream bandwidth is lower than the downstream bandwidth. SDSL is generally marketed at business customers, while ADSL is marketed at private as well as business customers.

High data rate ethernet transport facility over digital subscriber lines

A facility transport system for transporting high speed Ethernet data over digital subscriber lines. The system, referred to as 100BaseS, is capable of transmitting 100 Mbps Ethernet over existing copper infrastructure up to distances of approximately 400 meters. The system achieves bit rates from 25 to 100 Mbps in increments of 25 Mbps with each 25 Mbps increment utilizing a separate copper wire pair. Each pair used provides a bidirectional 25 Mbps link with four copper wire pair connections providing 4×25 Mbps downstream channels and 4×25 Mbps upstream channels. The system utilizes framing circuitry to adapt the 100BaseT input data signal to up to four separate output signals. A DSL Ethernet Port card couples the modem to each twisted pair used. Each DSL Ethernet Port card comprises modem transmitter and receiver circuitry for sending and receiving 100BaseS signals onto twisted pair wires. The system utilizes QAM in combination with frequency division multiplexing (FDM) to separate downstream channels from upstream channels and to separate both the downstream and the upstream channels from POTS and ISDN signals.

Lifeline telephony provision for voice over digital subscriber line

A method, apparatus, and software for providing lifeline service during power failure affecting Customer Premises Equipment (CPE) in a Digital Subscriber Loop (DSL) arranged to carry voice traffic in band rather than on a separate analogue POTS band. The arrangement provides a reduced service, capable of supporting at least one voice call, to operate during such power failure and, where a single call is in progress during power failure, that call may be maintained during the transition from DSL to analogue POTS lifeline service. Where a call is in progress upon power restoration, the lifeline POTS service may be maintained until completion of the call so as not to interrupt a potential lifeline call.

Method for reducing noise from a non-linear device that shares a customer loop with an asymmetric digital subscriber line modem

A method for reducing noise from a non-linear device, such as a telephone, that shares a customer loop with a splitterless Asymmetric Digital Subscriber Line modem. The non-linearity of the device can cause some of the upstream signal to bleed into the downstream signal band. The modem examines the downstream band when it is transmitting fast retrain signals. By comparing the power in the band to a previous value when the modem transmitted upstream at a higher power level, the modem may determine whether to cut back its transmitted power to lessen the noise in the downstream band. In this manner, the method may allow optimal downstream data transfer regardless of what non-linear device shares the customer loop with the ADSL modem.

Method and device for reducing x digital subscriber line (DSL) system and xDSL system

The embodiment of the invention relates to a method and a device for reducing the voltage of an x digital subscriber line (SDL) system and the xDSL system. The method comprises the following steps of: measuring and calculating minimum transmission power required by each port on a service single board according to service parameters configured on the service single board of a control office in the xDSL system, wherein the service parameters comprise a service rate and an excepted signal to noise ratio margin; calculating a voltage drop value required by a line driver for driving each port according to a maximum value in the minimum transmission power required by each port; and configuring the transmission power of each port to be the maximum value in the minimum transmission power required by each port, and reducing the power supply voltage of the line driver by the voltage drop value. The transmission power is measured and calculate to produce a fixed transmission power and power supply voltage reduction template, thereby reducing the energy consumption of the xDSL system and avoiding the phenomenon that the transmission power of each port of the service single board is not limited due to the reduction in the power supply voltage of the line driver (LD) to further cause signal wave absorption.

Central office interface techniques for digital subscriber lines

A splitterless interface between a digital subscriber line (DSL) and the central office equipment that can receive and isolate the low frequency voice data and high frequency digital data from a telephone line. This interface can also mix and transmit low frequency voice data and high frequency digital data onto a telephone line. For POTS band frequencies, a reactive impedance coupled across the two-wire interface of the POTS line card, and serially coupled to the line side of the DSL coupling transformer, has an open state magnitude. The magnitude of the line side windings of the DSL coupling transformer is low at POTS band frequencies. POTS band signal power is therefore delivered to the POTS line card. For DSL band frequencies, the reactive impedance across the two-wire interface of the POTS line card has a closed state magnitude. The POTS line card is therefore essentially short-circuited at DSL band frequencies, and DSL band signal power is delivered to the DSL modem. The frequency band in which the reactive impedance transitions from an open state magnitude to a closed state magnitude corresponds to the frequency band between the POTS frequency band and the DSL frequency band.

Dynamic provisioning of DSL services

A subscriber dynamically selects an Internet protocol (IP) service provider. In response to the selection, a digital subscriber line (DSL) modem establishes a switched virtual circuit (SVC) connection from the subscriber to the selected service provider across an asynchronous transfer mode (ATM) network. After the SVC has been established, the modem formats IP data, received from the subscriber, into ATM cells. The ATM cells are forwarded from the DSL modem, via the SVC, to a router associated with the selected service provider. The router formats the ATM cells into IP packets and forwards the IP packets to the selected service provider. Thus, the subscriber has a dynamically established connection to the selected service provider that can be used for IP traffic.
