Segmentation-based hybrid compression scheme for scanned documents

A hybrid compression scheme in which one or more compression schemes are applied to a scanned document depending on its content. Based on the scanned document data itself and edge-map version thereof, a color test is performed to determine if the document is text or a drawing. If only a few colors are detected, the entire document is compressed by a photo compression technique at full resolution. If more than a few colors are present, the document is most likely a mixed mode document, in which case the entire document undergoes segmentation, a process in which text and drawing regions are separated from the background. The mask of the text and / or drawing regions are coded by a bi-level compression technique, whereas background is down-sampled, if necessary, and then compressed by a photo compression technique. A wrapper module is used to wrap the compressed stream(s) into a single file for easy browsing or transmitting.

Mixed mode microfluidic systems

Methods and systems that employ hybrid fluid flow profiles for optimized movement of materials through channel networks. These systems employ hybrid pressure-based and electrokinetic based flow systems for moving materials through interconnected channel networks while maintaining interconnection among the various channel segments. In particular, the invention is generally directed to channel networks where flow in a first channel segment is driven by pressure flow with its consequent parabolic flow profile, while flow in an interconnected channel segment is dominated by electrokinetic flow with its consequent plug flow profile. The invention also provides channel networks wherein fluid flow in channel segments is driven by both pressure and electric field and the multiple species contained in a fluid plug are separated by altering the applied pressure and electric fields in the various channel segments of the channel networks.

A method for oxygen depleted plasma etching and mixed mode plasma etching are disclosed. The method includes using an oxygen free etch plasma or a substantially oxygen free etch plasma at a high temperature to etch a stack including a plurality of layers of thin film materials. Framework for generating mixed-mode operations in loop-level simdization

A method, computer program product, and information handling system for generating mixed-mode operations in the compilation of program code for processors having vector or SIMD processing units is disclosed. In a preferred embodiment of the present invention, program instructions making up the body of a loop are abstracted into virtual vector instructions. These virtual vector instructions are treated, for initial code optimization purposes, as vector instructions (i.e., instructions written for the vector unit). The virtual vector instructions are eventually expanded into native code for the target processor, at which time a determination is made for each virtual vector instruction as to whether to expand the virtual vector instruction into native vector instructions, into native scalar instructions, into calls to pre-defined library functions, or into a combination of these. A cost model is used to determine the optimal choice of expansion based on hardware / software constraints, performance costs / benefits, and other criteria.

Digital Hybrid Mode Power Amplifier System

A RF-digital hybrid mode power amplifier system for achieving high efficiency and high linearity in wideband communication systems is disclosed. The present invention is based on the method of adaptive digital predistortion to linearize a power amplifier in the RF domain. The power amplifier characteristics such as variation of linearity and asymmetric distortion of the amplifier output signal are monitored by the narrowband feedback path and controlled by the adaptation algorithm in a digital module. Therefore, the present invention could compensate the nonlinearities as well as memory effects of the power amplifier systems and also improve performances, in terms of power added efficiency, adjacent channel leakage ratio and peak-to-average power ratio. The present disclosure enables a power amplifier system to be field reconfigurable and support multi-modulation schemes (modulation agnostic), multi-carriers and multi-channels. As a result, the digital hybrid mode power amplifier system is particularly suitable for wireless transmission systems, such as base-stations, repeaters, and indoor signal coverage systems, where baseband I-Q signal information is not readily available.

Wireless messaging preambles allowing for beamforming and legacy device coexistence

A modified preamble is used by extended devices that operate in mixed mode environments and green field environments, to accommodate beamforming of transmissions. In one process, an extended wireless device processes data for transmission of that data as a packet, wherein the extended wireless device is a device configured to communicate using a standard protocol understood by each node device and an extended protocol not understood by legacy node devices. If the packet is to be directed at an extended device, the extended wireless device sends a preamble of that packet that is usable in an extended mode at extended devices and usable at a receiving legacy device to determine that the receiving legacy device is not the destination of data to follow the preamble. Once the receiving legacy device is expected to be deferring the network, the extended wireless device can beamform its signal or otherwise vary from the legacy protocol in communications with extended devices.
