Gradual Recruitment of Muscle/Neural Excitable Tissue Using High-Rate Electrical Stimulation Parameters

A neurostimulator system (170) stimulates excitable muscle or neural tissue through multiple electrodes (E1, E2, . . . En) fast enough to induce stochastic neural firing, thereby acting to restore “spontaneous” neural activity. The type of stimulation provided by the neurostimulator involves the use of a high rate, e.g., greater than about 2000 Hz, pulsatile stimulation signal generated by a high rate pulse generator (172). The stream of pulses generated by the high rate pulse generator is amplitude modulated in an output driver circuit (176) with control information, provided by a modulation control element (178). Such amplitude-modulated pulsatile stimulation exploits the subtle electro physiological differences between cells comprising excitable tissue in order to desynchronize action potentials within the population of excitable tissue. Such desynchronization induces a wider distribution of population thresholds, as well as a wider electrical dynamic range, thereby better mimicking biological recruitment characteristics.

Disturbance attenuation in a precision servomechanism by a frequency-separated acceleration soft sensor

In servomechanisms, like for example used in disk drives, disturbances, for example, friction, shock and vibration, prevent the system positioning accuracy from further improvement. These disturbances occur in a relatively low-frequency range compared to the electrical dynamics. In the present invention, an acceleration feedback control loop using a frequency-separated acceleration soft sensor (350) replaces the conventionally used current control loop in the low frequency range, where the disturbances occur, so as to attenuate the influence of the disturbances enclosed in the loop. The current feedback continues to manage the electrical dynamics in the high-frequency range. Estimating the required acceleration signal by a soft sensor (350) eliminates the need for physical accelerometers, which reduce system reliability and increase system cost. The acceleration feedback control loop constructed with the obtained acceleration signal also makes the system more robust to the parameter inaccuracies and variations within the loop. This invention can be easily implemented with either software or hardware.

Variable-speed double-fed wind power station clustering equating method based on mechanical and electrical dynamic characteristics

The invention discloses a variable-speed double-fed wind power station clustering equating method based on mechanical and electrical dynamic characteristics. Firstly, a system containing a wind power station is quickly initialized to determine an initial operating point. According to the types of selected double-fed wind generators and by means of offline calculation, the wind speed upper limit and the wind speed lower limit of the remarkable change of transient-state electrodynamic potential dynamic characteristics of the wind generators are determined, and the wind generators are divided into three clusters. Secondly, the double-fed wind generators in the same cluster are respectively connected to an equivalent double-fed wind generator node through a complex ratio transformer, and interbuses, load buses, transient-state internal potential buses increased during equivalent and phase shift transformers in the wind power station are eliminated to obtain an equivalent network. Thirdly, according to the connection relation of an equivalent circuit of the wind generator and the principle of unchanged output mechanical power, equivalent wind generator parameters and equivalent wind speed are deduced. The variable-speed double-fed wind power station clustering equating method comprehensively considers electromechanical dynamic similarity degree of the double-fed wind generators and is particularly suitable for accurate equivalent operation of the wind power station with complex connection and large wind speed difference.

Piecewise uniform conduction-like flow channels and method therefor

A low-dispersion methodology for designing microfabricated conduction channels for on-chip electrokinetic-based systems is presented. The technique relies on trigonometric relations that apply for ideal electrokinetic flows, allowing faceted channels to be designed on chips using common drafting software and a hand calculator. Flows are rotated and stretched along the abrupt interface between adjacent regions with differing permeability. Regions bounded by interfaces form flow “prisms” that can be combined with other designed prisms to obtain a wide range of turning angles and expansion ratios while minimizing dispersion. Designs are demonstrated using two-dimensional numerical solutions of the Laplace equation.

Dielectric blade comb piston unlimited voltage generator, fusor and more

The electric vs. mechanic bi-directional power conversion application has been traditionally and asymmetrically favoring at magnetic element as energy caching and buffering bridge, e.g. the electric motors and generators that are also abstracted as electromechanical devices. The theory behind electromechanical devices is electrodynamics. Based on the fast development of high energy density dielectric materials, my inventions are to be a game changer: let electrical field alone to take the heavy duty of electromechanical utilities, and let “dielectrodynamics” replace electrodynamics. Of the most importance is the key limitless high voltage generator, which can cover full gamut of voltages from volts to kilovolts (KV), megavolts (MV), gigavolts (GV), teravolts (TV), and whatever we need, just provided necessary space occupancy and mechanic work are secured to assist dielectric piston or blades displacement. As the nature of such an electric power supply, it is fit for pulse application, such as Z-pinch, particle accelerator, nuclear ignition, fusion reactor, ornithopter etc. Civil application is also possible, such as harvest wind power, pulse heating even with overunity and so on, but regular non-pulse application needs further power smoothing or conversion. It is the time of saying bye to Marx generator, rare earth magnetic materials, mile-size accelerator, country-size neutron spallation system and more, just cheerfully to embrace the epoch of powerful inexhaustible fusion energy and magnetic-free dielectrodynamic utilities.

Method and apparatus for the thermal protection of a space vehicle.

InactiveUS20140284428A1Decrease convective heat fluxCosmonautic vehiclesCosmonautic thermal protectionShock waveHeat flux
The essence of the invention is a method and apparatus for thermally protecting the external surface of the structure of a space vehicle during atmospheric reentry. The method, in detail, uses a recently discovered fundamental electrodynamic combustion mechanism for alkali metals to burn the metal onto the surface of the outer wall of the vehicle. In this mechanism, a static electric field that is always inherent to the burning alkali metal surface interacts electrodynamically with the ionized particles streaming behind the atmospheric front shock wave that propagates in front of the vehicle such that the electrodynamic Lorentz force deflects the particles perpendicularly away from the original direction of the ionized atmospheric flow. Thus, convective heat flux into the vehicle's structure is prevented. An apparatus is also presented for coating the alkali metal onto the porous outer wall of the vehicle structure via transpiration from the interior of the liquid lightweight alkali metal.
