A water content measuring apparatus, for measuring water content present in a fluid flow through a tube, includes a pulse generator for generating in operation a temporal series of excitation pulses, a coil arrangement disposed around the tube adapted to be excited into resonance by the series of excitation pulses and interact with the fluid flow through the tube, and a signal processor adapted to receive resonance signals from the coil arrangement for determining a water content present within the tube. The coil arrangement includes a resonance coil having a length-to-diameter ratio which is at least 3:1, and wherein the resonance coil includes at least 10 turns.

Nano-particle and elastomer reinforcing and toughening polypropylene composite material and preparation method thereof

The invention relates to a preparation method of the nano-particle and elastomer reinforcing and toughening polypropylene composite material, belonging to the technical field of the polypropylene composite material. The preparation method comprises the following steps of: (1) coating nano-particles by using a surface active agent to form surface modified nano-particles, wherein the nano-particles are organic montmorillonite, nano-titanium dioxide and nano-hydrotalcite; (2) forming maleic anhydride grafted polypropylene by using free radical reaction; and (3) melting and blending the surface modified nano-particles, the maleic anhydride grafted polypropylene, ethylene propylene diene rubber, an ethylene-octylene copolymer and polypropylene in a two-screw extruder, thus obtaining the polypropylene composite material. The preparation method has the advantages of being applied to modification of waste polypropylene, being capable of improving the mechanical property and ageing resistance of the waste polypropylene, realizing the cyclic utilization of the waste polypropylene material, being beneficial to environmental protection and reducing the using amount of plastic raw materials; and the performance of the modified waste polypropylene can meet or exceed the standard requirements of PP plastic parts for motorcycles and electric vehicles.

A binder fiber comprising a polyamide component in at least part of a surface thereof is prepared. The polyamide component contains a semi-aromatic polyamide at least having an aromatic ring unit and a C3-7 alkane unit which may have a branched CA 1-3 alkyl chain. The polyamide component may be (d) a combination of (b) a semi-aromatic polyamide and (c) a semi-aromatic polyamide, wherein the polyamide (b) has an aromatic ring unit and a C3-7 alkane unit which may have a branched C1-3 alkyl chain, and the polyamide (c) has an aromatic ring unit and a C8-12 alkane unit which may have a branched C1-3 alkyl chain.

Structure for railroad ties having data acquisition, processing and transmission means

An encapsulated railroad tie structure and its method of manufacture. A core of laminated wood slats is inserted into an extruded sleeve of scrap tire rubber and polyurethane. A urethane adhesive laminates the wood slats together and serves as a lubricant and bonding agent for placement and secured engagement of the sleeve about the core. End caps are securely engaged to both the core and sleeve. The core may be provided with bores and grooves to receive sensors and conductors interconnected with a processor and transponder maintained in an end cap. The end cap also maintains a photovoltaic device and power source for the active elements of the railroad tie structure. The core may also be manufactured of a wood or other natural fiber giving the core a desired flex modulus to provide for better control and serviceability of associated rails and railway cars.

Calibration of a substrate inspection tool

A method for calibration of a substrate inspection tool is disclosed. The tool is used to inspect a standard substrate having simulated contamination defects with known characteristics. Performance of the tool in detecting the simulated contamination defects is determined. The tool exposes the standard substrate and simulated contamination defects to radiation having a wavelength of about 260 nanometers or less. The simulated contamination defects are stable over time under exposure to radiation having a wavelength of about 260 nanometers or less.
