The invention discloses a method for controlling flow dividing at a crossroad through traffic lights, and the method specifically comprises the following steps: (1), turning off the
green light in advance if there is no vehicle at one side of a first
trunk line, wherein the first
trunk line and a second
trunk line are interlaced at a main intersection; (2), turning off the
green light in advance if there is no vehicle at one side of the second
trunk line; (3), enabling a light board to be yellow because a main road light board at an intersection of an auxiliary road is also yellow under the normal condition, enabling the yellow light of the main road to turn green once a person on the auxiliary road presses the button, and enabling the
green light to turn red after 20S, wherein when the light on the main road turns red, the light board of the auxiliary road turns green. The invention also discloses a
system employing the method. Speed bumps are laid in the range of 200m from the main intersection on the first and second trunk lines, and are provided with resistive strain weight sensors. Monitoring devices are respectively disposed above a waiting lane of the first
trunk line and awaiting lane of the second
trunk line which is 200m far from the main intersection. The method and
system improve the
traffic efficiency, and guarantee the safety.
