Thermographic Test Method and Testing Device for Carrying Out the Test Method

A thermographic test method locally resolves detection and identification of defects near the surface in a test object. A surface area of the test object is heated up. A series of thermographic images following one after another at a time interval is recorded within a heat propagation phase, each image representing a local temperature distribution in a surface region of the test object recorded by the image. Positionally correctly assigned temperature profiles are determined from the images, each positionally correctly assigned temperature profile being assigned to the same measuring region of the test object surface. Variations over time of temperature values are determined from the temperature profiles for a large number of measuring positions of the measuring region. These variations are evaluated on the basis of at least one evaluation criterion indicative of the heat flow in the measuring region.

System and method for performing k-nearest neighbor search based on minimax distance measure and efficient outlier detection

A system and method enable a set of dataset objects that are K-nearest neighbors (K-NN), based on their Minimax distances to a test object, to be identified without computing the all-pair Minimax distances directly. A pairwise distance between the test object and each dataset object is computed. The selected dataset object at each iteration is the one for which there is no other unselected dataset object which has a smaller pairwise distance to any of a current subset of objects than the selected dataset object. The current subset of objects includes the test object and the dataset objects currently in the K-NN set. After the K-NN set is identified it may be output or used to generate other information, such as a test object label.

System and method providing automated margin tree analysis and processing of sampled data

The present invention relates to a system and methodology to facilitate database processing in accordance with a plurality of various applications. In one aspect, a large database of objects is processed, wherein the objects can be represented as points in a vector space, and two or more objects are deemed ‘close’ if a Euclidean distance between the points is small. This can apply for substantially any type of object, provided a suitable distance measure can be defined. In another aspect, a ‘test’ object having a vector x, is processed to determine if there exists an object y in the database such that the distance between x and y falls below a threshold t. If several objects in the database satisfy this criteria, a list of objects can be returned, together with their corresponding distances. If no objects were to satisfy the criterion, an indication of this condition can also be provided, but in addition, the condition or information relating to the condition can be provided.

Pulsed eddy current method for detection of corrosion in multilayer structures using the lift-off point of intersection

A method for the detection and the characterization of corrosion in multi-layer metallic structures using a pulsed eddy current technique. For this technique, a coil (or coils) is used both as field source (driven by a square wave voltage-controlled excitation), and / or as field sensor (measuring a transient response). The field sensor allows the capture of information about the condition of the area of the structure under inspection. The ability of this technique to detect corrosion hinges on the use of a transient response feature (i.e., Lift-off Point of Intersection) to infer the presence of material loss. With the help of a calibration standard, the Lift-off Point of Intersection provides the ability to quantify material loss in multi-layered structures. The results obtained with this method are independent of lift-off variations inherent to field inspections (i.e., changes in distance between the transducer and test object).
