Layer two tunneling protocol (L2TP) merging and management

A system is provided for creating a tunneling service from the use of a traditional tunneling protocol, such as the layer two tunneling protocol (L2TP). In particular, the L2TP tunneling protocol, which is designed to go point-to-point between an L2TP Access Concentrator (LAC) and an L2TP Network Server (LNS), is abstracted so that L2TP becomes an access protocol to a tunneling service. A new L2TP tunnel merger and management (LTM) service is created which severs the tight configuration relationships between LAC and LNSs. Only a tight configuration between an LAC and its LTM edge device and between an LNS and its LTM edge device is required. An internal trunk protocol (INT protocol) carries needed information between LTM edge devices to establish ingress / egress L2TP access calls inside of separate L2TP access tunnels on opposite LTM edge devices. The addition of another LAC is accomplished by re-routing L2TP tunnels within the LTM service without reconfiguration of the LNSs, and the addition of another LNS is accomplished by re-routing L2TP tunnels within the LTM service without reconfiguration of the LACs. The LTM service determines the need for both additional trunk and access resources and establishes both new trunk / access tunnels to provide additional resources. The LTM service also determines excess resources on both trunk and access entities and releases trunk / access tunnels to provide the needed additional resources.

Internet switch router

An internet router is implemented as a network fabric of fabric routers and links. The internet router receives data packets from trunk lines or other internet links and analyzes header information in the data packets to route the data packets to output internet links. The line interface also analyzes the header to define a fabric path through the router fabric. The internet packets are broken into flits which are transferred through the router according to a wormhole routing protocol. Flits are stored in fabric routers at storage locations assigned to virtual channels corresponding to destination internet links. The virtual channels and links within the fabric define virtual networks in which congestion in one virtual network is substantially nonblocking to data flow through other virtual networks. Arbitration is performed at each fabric router to assign packets to virtual channels and to assign virtual channels to output fabric links. A virtual channel is enabled for possible assignment to an output fabric link upon receipt of an indication that an input buffer is available at the next fabric router of the path.

The test signal is generated by an optical time domain reflectometry unit to simultaneously fault test fiber access lines linking the RN to customer premises. The test signal is separated from downstream WDM signals at the RN. The test signal is power split at the RN into a plurality of access line test signals. The access line test signals are each recombined with a corresponding one of the downstream WDM signals onto a corresponding one of the fiber access lines. Test signal reflections are received at the CO from the fiber access lines as a reflection signature and analyzed to identify a location of the fiber fault.

In a stack of network units each includes a multiplicity of ports for receiving and forwarding addressed data packets and a forwarding engine which in response to address data selects at least one port for the forwarding of a data packet. A cascade connects the units and allows the transmission of a packet placed on said cascade by a unit to all the other units. Each unit is responsive to a packet received from the cascade to forward or discard the received packet according to predetermined forwarding rules. A trunk includes a respective port of each of some but not necessarily all the units. Each unit includes a 'trunk box member' register indicating which of the units has at least one port connected in the trunk When a first unit in the stack receives, at a port connected neither to the trunk nor the cascade, a packet destined for the trunk, the first unit directs that packet to a port connected to the trunk if the first unit has such a port and otherwise sends that packet to the cascade. When a second unit in the stack, having a port connected to the trunk, receives by way of the cascade from the first unit a packet destined for the trunk, the second unit determines with recourse to the forwarding rules, data identifying the first unit and the respective register whether to forward said packet to the trunk. The invention is particularly intended for use in stack-wide trunks operating according to 'local forwarding' and 'next-in-line' rules and allows units in the stack to be omitted from direct connection to the trunk.

An optical multiplexing device is provided comprising multiple wavelength division multiplexers cascaded together. A first one of the wavelength division multiplexers has a common port and multiple optical ports which are optically coupled to the common port. A waveguide, such as a fiber-optic line, can optically connect the common port of the second wavelength division multiplexer to an optical port of the first wavelength division multiplexer. The cascaded WDMs each may be optically coupled to the output of a passive coupler and a housing may be provided defining an enclosed space in which the optical multiplexing device is mounted. Optionally, additional WDMs may be cascaded with the first two WDMs in a parallel or branched formation, an in-line formation or some combination. Preferably, the channels are interleaved, such that they are removed from the multiplexed signal in certain non-sequential order. The optical multiplexing device also may employ compound interleaving wherein adjacent channels are multiplexed by different ones of the cascaded WDMs. The optical multiplexing devices can operate to add signals, remove signals or a combination of both.

Sensors are arranged between the outermost lane of an arterial highway and the two sides of an arterial highway access. An arterial highway guide rod device is obliquely buried under the ground of the arterial highway access. A bicycle way a certain distance away from the arterial highway access is provided with a sensor used for detecting pedestrians or vehicles and a bicycle way guide rod device. The bicycle way guide rod device is arranged in front of the sensor. A sensor and a local highway guide rod device are disposed on a right turning lane of the local highway a certain distance away from the arterial highway access. The local highway guide rod device is disposed in front of the sensor. Each guide rod device comprises a guide rod, a lifting column, a box and a drive control device, wherein the guide rod is installed on the lifting column, and the lifting column is driven by the drive control device to move up and down. Normal traffic order of the access can be guaranteed, the occurrence rate of traffic accidents is reduced, and traffic efficiency of main highways is guaranteed.
