Apparatus and method for communicating between a central processing unit and a graphics processing unit

The present invention provides an improved technique for communicating between a central processing unit and a graphics processing unit of a data processing apparatus. Shared memory is provided which is accessible by the central processing unit and the graphics processing unit, and via which data structures are shareable between the central processing unit and the graphics processing unit. A bus is also provided via which the central processing unit, graphics processing unit and shared memory communicate. In accordance with a first mechanism of controlling the graphics processing unit, the central processing unit routes control signals via the bus. However, in addition, an interface is provided between the central processing unit and the graphics processing unit, and in accordance with an additional mechanism for controlling the graphics processing unit, the central processing unit provides control signals over the interface. This enables the GPU to continue to be used to handle large batches of graphics processing operations loosely coupled with the operations performed by the CPU, whilst through use of the additional mechanism it is also possible to employ the GPU to perform processing operations on behalf of the CPU in situations where those operations are tightly coupled with the operations performed by the CPU.

Peroxide cured fluorocarbon elastomer compositions

A process involves adding a peroxide masterbatch to a molten blend of a fluorocarbon elastomer and a thermoplastic material. The peroxide masterbatch contains greater than or equal to 5% weight percent organic peroxide, further contains a fluorocarbon elastomer, and typically also contains a crosslinker containing at least two sites of olefinic unsaturation. The fluorocarbon elastomer in the molten blend and in the peroxide masterbatch may be the same or different. After the peroxide masterbatch is added to the molten blend, the combination is mixed at a temperature and for a time sufficient to effect cure of the fluorocarbon elastomers. By using a masterbatch, a faster and more uniform dispersion of peroxide curative is possible due to pre-dispersion of peroxide in the elastomer phase, which leads to shaped articles having improved mechanical properties.

Serviceability framework for an autonomic data centre

There is provided a data processing system-implemented method, system and an article of manufacture for providing a serviceability framework for autonomic resource management in a computer data centre. The data centre is monitored based on a logical representation (model) in the serviceability framework representative of the actual physical devices. The data centre logical model is constantly synchronized with the physical devices of the actual data centre where inconsistencies occur, and fast reporting is required before more problems occur. Monitoring agents associated with all the data centre devices are implemented to quickly identify and deal with problems before human intervention is required. A data centre health monitor is capable of detecting the malfunctions of typical devices and sub-systems in the data centre. For problems or failures that require drastic steps, the subsystem may be isolated and then interrogated separately from the rest of the data centre. Interruptions may be avoided by cloning a designated portion of the data centre systems for off-line trouble-shooting, thereby saving the systems from shutting down totally. A robust set of messages and trace logs including current operational status and health of the data centre may be provided for further diagnostic problem determination.

Food service equipment comprising a multiple-pass feeder conveyor and toaster with floating platen to accommodate different food products having different thickness dimensions

Food service equipment comprises a multiple-pass feeder conveyor and toaster which comprises an upper inclined food product infeed conveyor ramp for causing the food products to proceed in a first direction extending from the rear of the appliance toward the front of the appliance and onto the upper run of a first upper endless conveyor. The upper run of the first upper endless conveyor conveys the food products into a semi-circular return product feeder which causes the food products to be conveyed in a second opposite direction extending from the front of the appliance toward the rear of the appliance and into an entry space defined by means of the lower run of the first upper endless conveyor and the upper run of a second lower endless conveyor, the two conveyors being synchronized together. The pair of conveyors convey the food products between heated platens respectively associated with the two conveyors whereby the food products are cooked or toasted. Additional pairs of conveyors can also be incorporated within the system, in a vertically stacked array, so as to effectively increase the length of travel experienced by the multiple food products without increasing the footprint of the equipment. In addition, upper and lower heated platens are operatively associated with the first and second upper and lower endless conveyors, and the upper heated platen is movably mounted within the food service equipment so as to move upwardly and downwardly and thereby permit different food products, having different thickness dimensions, to be conveyed through the food service equipment.

System and method to customize bond programs compensating integrated circuit bonder variability

A computerized system and method for customizing bond programs in order to compensate first for variabilities in an integrated circuit (IC) “slave” bonder, and second to any irregularities in a “slave” circuit positioned on the slave bonder for attaching connecting bonds onto the IC bond pads. According to the invention, a “master” segmentator groups the bond pads of a “master” circuit on a master bonder into segments and stores the reference data related to these segments in a master file. Next, a slave regenerator, coupled to the master file, regenerates the master reference data so that variable characteristics of the slave bonder are defined and adaptively compensated. Finally, a slave corrector, coupled to the salve regenerator, corrects the bond program for the slave circuit on the adaptively compensated slave bonder. The slave bonder attaches the connecting bonds based on the computed correct bond locations.
