The magnetic toner particles retain carbon in an amount of A and iron in an amount of B at surfaces thereof as measured by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, satisfying: B / A<0.001. The binder resin comprises a resin formed by polymerization of a monomer comprising at least styrene monomer. The magnetic toner has a residual styrene monomer content of less than 300 ppm, and contains at least 50% by number of toner particles satisfying a relationship of: D / C<=0.02, wherein C represents a volume-average particle size of the magnetic toner, and D represents a minimum distance between the surface of a magnetic toner particle and magnetic powder particles contained in the magnetic toner particle. Owing to the above features, the magnetic toner can exhibit good electrohotographic performances, including excellent chargeability and little transfer-residual toner, even in a cleanerless-mode image forming system.

This invention seeks to provide a novel device for removing membranous lead sulfate deposited on electrodes of a lead-acid battery by dissolving the lead sulfate into fine particles without causing the membranous lead sulfate to fall off or be suspended in the electrolytic solution, thus to recover the performance of the battery in a deteriorated state and prolong the battery life. This invention further seeks to provide a novel device for removing membranous lead sulfate deposit on the electrodes, which can emit little noise to the outside environment. To attain the objects as noted above according to the present invention, there is provided a device for removing membranous lead sulfate deposited on electrodes of the lead-acid battery due to sulfation by using a phenomenon bringing about a conductor skin effect of intensively dissolving the surface layer of the membranous lead sulfate deposited on the electrodes with the pulse current having a short pulse width, which device is attached to a lead-acid battery and provided with a voltage detector, reference voltage generator, voltage comparator, oscillator, amplifier, waveform shaping circuit, negative pulse generator, and electrfying indicator. The pulse width of the pulse current is preferably 1 μs or less.

Method of operating fuel cell

A method for operating a fuel cell, which is capable of recovering the performance of the fuel cell when the performance of the fuel cell is degraded. The fuel cell includes a membrane electrode assembly having an electrolyte film, an anode, and a cathode. The anode and the cathode sandwich the electrolyte film and carry a catalyst metal. An oxidizing agent is fed to the cathode and fuel is fed to the anode to generate power. After a predetermined period of time has passed, two sides of the membrane electrode assembly are inverted to carry out a changing operation of changing the anode before inverted to a cathode, and changing the cathode before inverted to an anode. After the changing operation, an oxidizing agent is fed to the cathode after changed and fuel is fed to the anode after changed, thereby starting a power generation again.
