Cooling structure for disk storage device

A disk drive box 10 accommodates a plurality of disk drives 20 within a case 11. A side face of each of the drives 20 is provided with a heat-absorbing part 40 including a heat pipe, corresponding to heat producing area HP. The heat taken away by the heat-absorbing part 40 is transmitted to a heat sink 50 of the rear of a backboard 30 via a heat connector 60. The heat sink 50 is cooled by cooling air flowing through an air duct 7. By cooling the drive 20 with the heat pipe, clearances between the drives 20 can be substantially eliminated, and it is made unnecessary to form an opening for air cooling in the backboard 30. Thus, size reduction is possible, and it is possible to increase the degree of freedom for a wiring pattern formed on the backboard 30.

Power electronics equipments

Power electronics equipment includes air-cored insulating transformers inserted between a control circuit grounded to a vehicle body and an upper arm biased at a high voltage, and air-cored insulating transformers between the control circuit grounded to the vehicle body and the lower arm biased at a high voltage. Each of the air-cored insulating transformers includes a primary winding and a secondary facing to each other. The power electronics equipment facilitates improving resistance against hazardous environments, suppressing the deterioration by aging, reducing the adverse effects of noise caused by external magnetic flux, and transmitting and receiving signals while insulating the low and high voltage sides electrically from each other.

A/d conversion processing apparatus providing improved elimination of effects of noise through digital processing, method of utilizing the a/d conversion processing apparatus, and electronic control apparatus incorporating the a/d conversion processing apparatus

In an A / D conversion control apparatus for use in an electronic controller such as an engine ECU of a vehicle, each of successive sets of A / D converted values of an analog signal (each set comprising 3 or more values) is processed to obtain a median value of the set, and the median values are subjected to digital smoothing processing to obtain successive final result values, with effects of noise contained in the analog signal being effectively excluded. The final result values are suitable as control data, supplied to a control device such as a microcomputer of an ECU.

The invention is directed to an implanted microphone having reduced sensitivity to vibration. In this regard, the microphone differentiates between the desirable and undesirable vibration by utilizing at least one motion sensor to produce a motion signal when an implanted microphone is in motion. This motion signal is used to yield a microphone output signal that is less vibration sensitive. In a first arrangement, the motion signal may be processed with an output of the implantable microphone transducer to provide an audio signal that is less vibration-sensitive than the microphone output alone. Specifically, the motion signal may be scaled to match the motion component of the microphone output such that upon removal of the motion signal from the microphone output, the remaining signal is an acoustic signal.

Perpendicular magnetic recording medium and magnetic storage apparatus using the same

Embodiments in accordance with the present invention provide a perpendicular recording medium with low noise and high recording density by reducing the effects from noise generated from the vicinity of the interface with the intermediate layer of the recording layer, in a perpendicular recording medium utilizing a granular recording layer containing oxygen or oxide additive in a cobalt-chromium alloy formed on an intermediate layer with a ruthenium or ruthenium alloy layer. A first recording layer and a second recording layer are formed in order on an intermediate layer of ruthenium or ruthenium alloy. The first recording layer and the second recording layer are comprised of cobalt as the main material in a granular structure containing chromium and oxygen. The saturation magnetization of the first recording layer is lower than the saturation magnetization of the second recording layer. When a first recording layer saturation magnetization is set as Ms1 (emu per cubic centimeter), a second recording layer saturation magnetization is set as Ms2 (emu per cubic centimeter), and the first recording layer film thickness is set to t1 (nm), then (Ms2−Ms1)×t1 will be larger than 0 (memu per square centimeter) and smaller than 0.15 (memu per square centimeter).

Seismic geophysical surveying

The present invention relates to an apparatus for use in geophysical surveying. Geophysical surveying typically involves stimulating an area of interest with a seismic source (204) and detecting the response in a sensor array. The application describes a fiber optic distributed sensing apparatus having a source (112) of electromagnetic radiation for repeatedly launching interrogating electromagnetic radiation into an optic fiber (104) deployed in said of area interest, a sampling detector (116) for sampling radiation back-scattered from the fiber; and a processor (108) arranged to process the back-scattered radiation to provide, for each of a plurality of longitudinal sensing portions of optic fiber, an indication of any incident acoustic signals affecting that sensing portion. The sampling detector is arranged to acquire a plurality of diversity samples for each said longitudinal sensing portion. The processor is configured process the diversity samples in diversity channels to determine a measurement signal indicative of any acoustic disturbance; correlate the measurement signal from each channel with a signal indicative of the seismic stimulus applied; and combine the correlated measurement signals to provide an overall measurement signal for the longitudinal sensing portion. The processor may apply a quality metric to the correlated data before performing the combination based on the quality metric. By correlating the individual diversity channels with the stimulus signal prior to performing the analysis of the measurement signal for a particular longitudinal section of optic fiber, the signal to noise ratio can be improved.

Display image enhancement apparatus and method using adaptive interpolation with correlation

A display image enhancement apparatus and method are disclosed for use in generating additional pixel data from input image data, where a window of input pixel data is used to generate data for an additional pixel to be placed substantially in the center of the window. The display image enhancement apparatus includes memory elements that is capable of receiving a chain of input pixel data and storing at least the window of input pixel data, where the window of input pixels includes a plurality of pixel pairs each of which respectively represents an angle of correlation. The display image enhancement apparatus also includes instant angle detection circuitry capable of receiving the input pixel data stored in the memory elements and determining an instant angle having the highest correlation based on differential values of at least some of the pixel pairs, where a differential value is the difference between the values of pixels in a pixel pair. The display image enhancement apparatus further includes substantial angle detection circuitry capable of determining a substantial angle having the highest correlation based on filtered differential values of at least some of the pixel pairs. Angle confirmation circuitry is provided to determine an interpolation angle based on the instant angle and the substantial angle. The display image enhancement apparatus employs an interpolator that is capable of determining the value of the additional pixel based on the values of pixels in the pixel pair corresponding to the interpolation angle.
