Methods and compositions for modulating cell proliferation and cell death

Methods and compositions for modulating the FGF effect on the sensitivity of malignant and normal cells to anticancer agents are provided. In particular, methods and compositions for inhibiting FGF-induced resistance to a broad spectrum of anticancer agents in solid and soft-tissue tumors, metastatic lesions, leukemia and lymphoma are provided. Preferably, the compositions include at least one FGF inhibitor in combination with a cytotoxic agents, e.g., antimicrotubule agents, topoisomerase I inhibitors, topoisomerase II inhibitors, antimetabolites, mitotic inhibitors, alkylating agents, intercalating agents, agents capable of interfering with a signal transduction pathway (e.g., g., a protein kinase C inhibitor, e.g., an anti-hormone, e.g., an antibody against growth factor receptors), an agent that promotes apoptosis and/or necrosis, and interferon, an interleukin, a tumor necrosis factor, and radiation. In other embodiments, methods and composition for protecting a cell in a subject, from one or more of killing, inhibition of growth or division or other damage caused, e.g., by a cytotoxic agent, are provided. Preferably, the method includes: administering, to the subject, an effective amount of at least one FGF agonist, thereby treating the cell, e.g., protecting or reducing the damage to the dividing cell from said cytotoxic agent.

Medical devices having antimicrobial coatings thereon

The present invention provides a medical device, preferably a contact lens, which comprises an antimicrobial coating including at least one layer of polyquat of formula (I) or (II). The antimicrobial coating on the medical device of the invention has a high antimicrobial efficacy against microorganisms including Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacterial, a low toxicity, low coefficient of friction, and increased hydrophilicity while maintaining the desired bulk properties such as oxygen permeability and ion permeability of lens material. Such lenses are useful as extended-wear contact lenses. In addition, the invention provides a method for making a medical device, preferably a contact lens, having an antimicrobial coating thereon.

Direct venous re-transfusion immune cell cryopreservation medium and application thereof

The invention discloses a direct venous re-transfusion immune cell cryopreservation medium and application thereof. The direct venous re-transfusion immune cell cryopreservation medium is prepared from dimethyl sulfoxide, human serum albumin, dextran, hydroxyethyl starch, heparin sodium and other clinical medicinal level raw materials by optimizing the proportion of the dose of each raw material. In addition, the operation steps are simplified and the cryopreservation effect is improved by optimizing the cryopreservation method. On one hand, the potential risk of introducing an animal source antigenic substance in the cell treatment process is avoided, and on the other hand, the cryopreservation effect of immune cells is better than that of a conventional cryopreservation medium, thereby guaranteeing the safety and validity in clinical use. Two kinds of components are used for preservation, so that the cryopreservation medium can be preserved stably for a long time. The method disclosed by the invention is simple in operation, provides stronger operability for implementation of large-scale cryopreservation, and simultaneously provides a fundamental technical guarantee for implementation of immune cell treatment.
