Biaxially oriented polylactic acid film with reduced noise level

Described are biaxially oriented polylactic acid (BOPLA) films with a novel formulation that exhibits a softer feel and quieter sound, without jeopardizing film making stability. The films can be used, for example, in packaging applications. The films can be metallized, or combined with barrier coatings or layers, for improved gas barrier properties particularly for moisture vapor transmission barrier desired in packaging applications. The films can also be printing films for packaging applications and may be transparent or matte in appearance. The films have characteristics that are beneficial to converting processes, are economical, and maintain bio-compostability similar to typical BOPLA films.

Zero IF complex quadrature frequency discriminator and FM demodulator

A frequency discriminators (FD) and frequency modulation (FM) demodulators, utilizing single sideband (SSB) complex conversion directly to zero IF, suitable for direct demodulation at high frequencies of analog FM or digital FSK modulated signals, as well as for high speed frequency discrimination (or frequency comparison) in applications such as frequency acquisition in frequency synthesizers. The complex SSB down-converter consists of a quad of mixers and quadrature splitters in both the signal path and local oscillator (LO) path. Each mixer receives both the signal and the LO, each either in-phase or quadrature. The outputs of mixers are combined in pairs, to produce the SSB in-phase (I) baseband signal and the SSB quadrature (Q) baseband signal. Both I and Q signals are then delayed, each multiplied by un-delayed version of the other one. The multiplication products are summed together, to produce an FD error signal, or an FM demodulated signal at the output. The delay time can be dynamically controlled, in order to set the FD frequency range or to adjust the gain of the FM demodulator.

Alternator fan

The invention is a fan for an alternator adapted to be coupled in rotation to the alternator rotor, and being of the type comprising a wheel part and a plurality of fan blades (47, 48) extending from the latter, the fan being moulded in a plastics material on an insert (50) which is preferably of metal and which constitutes the wheel part of the fan and is arranged to provide fastening of the fan on the rotor, being configured so as to constitute a means for increasing the mechanical strenght of the fan; the insert (50, 65) includes at least a portion of a blade (48, 69) of the fan. The invention is useful in the manufacture of a high power cooling fan for a motor vehicle alternator.

Multiple chambers mask

The present invention provides methods and apparatuses for gas delivery, in particular, a mask including at least one porous barrier defining at least two chambers in gaseous communication. The porous barrier may include a plurality of pores, which define a tapered shape. The mask may include a pliable nasal cushion. The invention provides a method for providing pressurised gas to a subject by supplying gas from a pressurised source to a mask, transmitting the gas into a first chamber at a first pressure, transmitting the gas into a second chamber at a second pressure through a plurality of pores, and transmitting the gas from the second chamber through a mask exit.
