Physical activity measuring system

InactiveUS20060020174A1Accurate exercise intensityAccurately determineInertial sensorsNavigation instrumentsIntensity scalingBody sensors
A physical activity measuring system analyzes analyzing body motions of a user to accurately determine the exercise intensity. The system includes a portable device which is adapted to be carried by the user and is equipped with a body sensor and an indicator for indication of the exercise intensity. The body sensor senses the user's body motions to give corresponding motion strength. The portable device has a processor which constitutes an exercise calculator which has a predetermined relationship between a default standard deviation of the motion strength and an exercise intensity scale. The exercise intensity calculator collects a time series data of the motion strengths within a predetermined first time frame, obtains a standard deviation of thus collected motion strengths, and converting the standard deviation into an instant exercise intensity within the intensity scale in accordance with the predetermined relationship. The standard deviation with regard to the motion strengths can be well concordant with the exercise intensity, and therefore gives the accurate exercise intensity on a real-time basis.

Circuit and method for controlling RGB LED color balance using a variable boosted supply voltage

A microprocessor uses one or more output pins to pulse width modulate a charge pump network to achieve a boosted voltage on an output port. The boosted voltage is then used to drive an LED, which may have a higher voltage drop than that of the starting un-boosted voltage. The adjustment of either the frequency or duty cycle of the PWM signal allows for adjustment of the steady state output voltage. This allows for the adjustment of the brightness of the LED by firmware while supplying enough voltage drop required by the LEDs.

Quadrature phase shift interferometer (QPSI) decoder and method of decoding

An arrangement and method for reliably finding the wave form extrema of interference signals produced by a quadrature phase shift interferometer (QPSI) takes advantage of the quadrature property of I and Q signals. The zero-crossing points in the I and Q signals are determined. Peak detection is performed for peaks and valleys in the Q signal in close proximity to the zero-crossing points in the I signal, and for peaks and valleys in the I signal in close proximity to the zero-crossing points in the Q signal. These represent the maximum and minimum points of the I and Q signals. From these points, intensity envelopes are created and QPSI phase wrapping is performed to determine the phase angle and ultimately, out-of-plane displacement may be determined.

Dual function fuel injector with tunable intra-port air & fuel flow control

In the preferred embodiments an air flow diverting blade is integral to a base that doubles as a collar designed to coaxially attach to the tip end of a typical port fuel injector for internal combustion engines.Upon simple manual manipulation of the set rotational angle of the typically externally exposed portion of the port fuel injector along its longitudinal axis, as typical modern port injection systems allow after installation, the angle of the intra-port flow diverting blade can be selectively varied to either straighten existing swirl and increase top end flow, or, introduce lateral directional swirl to whatever desired angle and intensity in either direction is desired. The functional use of a typical port fuel injector is thereby elevated to a dual function of both tunable fuel and air flow control at the point of induction into a combustion chamber without any modification to existing engine designs or their engine management control systems employed therefore. The flow diverting blade can be configured to divert flow around the intake valve stem, guide and guide boss in such a manner to optimize the overall flow dimension of the induction system of a typical internal combustion engine. The flow diverting blade also provides an effective means by which the proximity and angle of fuel injection, relative to the combustion chamber, can be altered and improved as desired. The flow diverting blade also provides an effective means by which a modest increase in effective fuel injector nozzle pressure and fuel vaporization can be realized during periods of high load.
