Vibration mediated networks for photovoltaic arrays

A system and method to optimize the overall power output of a photovoltaic solar array. The solar panels are connected to software adjustable power optimizing devices, which in turn are connected to a mesh network with individual router devices. The individual router devices will send and receive data packets by creating or detecting vibrations in a solid vibration conducting media (such as the solar power wiring) that connects the individual photovoltaic solar panels. Often at least one centralized control device is used to periodically request sensor data packets from the individual router devices and solar panels. The centralized control device will typically compute the proper adjustments for the individual adjustable power optimizing devices that will optimize the overall power output from the photovoltaic solar array. The control device will then send adjustment data packets back to the individual router devices through the mesh network, thus optimizing overall power output.

Apparatus and method for demonstrating quantized conductance

A lab experiment device and method that demonstrate quantized conductance as a macroscopic gold wire is elongated and broken. The device utilizes a mechanically controlled break junction to demonstrate conductance quantization. A preferred assembly includes a rigid plate with a block to which a micrometer mounts. Spaced posts are mounted to the plate forming a gap between the posts and the block, and a flexible beam is seated against the posts with the anvil of the micrometer seated against the beam. A wire that is mounted to the beam elongates when the anvil forces the beam into a bending configuration. By passing current through the wire and detecting the voltage through a constriction formed in the wire, one can witness conductance quantization as the wire elongates at the constriction to form a conductor of one atom.

Zero- & Low-Field Transport Detection System

A sensing apparatus for detecting and determining the magnitude of a static magnetic field has a first set of coils capable of producing a sweeping, quasi static, magnetic field when driven by a direct current and a second set of coils, for magnetic field modulation, positioned between the first set of coils capable of producing a low-frequency (audio), oscillating magnetic field when driven by an oscillating current. The magnetic fields induce a current through the semiconductor device which sampled to identify changes as a function of sweeping, quasi static magnetic field. To create an apparatus for detecting and identifying atomic scale defects in fully processed devices, a radio frequency circuit with a resonant component is added which provides an oscillating electromagnetic field in a direction perpendicular to that of the static magnetic field produced by the first set of coils.
