Spread spectrum communication method and system using diversity correlation and multi-user detection

A communication system transmits and receives a plurality of spread-spectrum signals having differences in at least one diversity parameter. The signals are highly correlated when their diversity parameters are similar, and the signals are uncorrelated when at least one diversity parameter is different. Any combination of a transmitter, a receiver, and a communication channel may diversity-encode the signals to effect differences in their diversity parameters. A receiver diversity-decoder compensates for differences in a diversity-parameter of at least one received signal to make the signal highly correlated with at least one other received signal. A correlator combines at least two of the received signals to recover an embedded information signal. The communication system enables the use of true-noise signals for spreading information signals, provides simplified receiver designs, and enables antenna arrays to spatially process spread-spectrum signals.

Fluid density measurement in pipes using acoustic pressures

The density of at least one fluid in a pipe is determined using a pair of effective sound speeds a1eff and a2eff of the fluid / pipe system. The pair of effective sound speed measurements is taken at two sensing regions along the pipe wherein each of the sensing regions has a different cross sectional area compliance. The pair of effective sound speeds a1eff and a2eff is provided to signal processing logic 60, which determines the density of the fluid flowing in the pipe. The effective sound speeds a1eff and a2eff may be provided by a pair of sound speed meters positioned at the sensing regions wherein the sound speed meters utilize a spatial array of acoustic pressure sensors placed at predetermined axial locations along the pipe. The acoustic pressure sensors measure one-dimensional planar acoustic waves that are lower in frequency (and longer wavelength) signals than those used for ultrasonic flow meters, and thus is more tolerant to inhomogeneities in the flow. In addition, no external acoustic source is required and the meters may operate using passive listening.

Plasma display panel (PDP)

A Plasma Display Panel (PDP) in which a dummy area is arranged so as to retain phosphor paste ejected from extra nozzles when a plurality of nozzles are used to apply phosphor paste. The PDP includes a first substrate and a second substrate opposing each other; address electrodes arranged on the first substrate; display electrodes arranged on the second substrate perpendicular to a direction of the address electrodes; barrier ribs arranged in a space between the first substrate and the second substrate to define a plurality of discharge cells; and phosphor layers arranged in each of the discharge cells; wherein a display area comprises a plurality of the discharge cells arranged at positions where the address electrodes and the display electrodes cross each other; wherein a non-display area is arranged adjacent to an edge of the display area along a direction perpendicular to a direction in which phosphor layers of the same color are applied to discharge cells neighboring each other; and wherein the phosphor layers are arranged in portions of the non-display area.

Optimized parametric modeling system and method

A system for enabling optimization of a parametric modeling process. The system includes a processor and an interface that allows at least one user input. Additionally, the system includes a regression analysis tree program that is executable by the processor. Upon execution by the processor, the regression analysis tree program operates to build a tree in accordance with the at least one user input by using a modified forward stepwise regression process to select the attributes for the tree's branches from a plurality of attributes. After the tree is built, the regression analysis tree program then performs regression analysis to calculate at least one regression result for an attribute subset in a tree branch when the tree branch is in compliance with at least one criterion and the attribute subset has not been previously analyzed.

System and method for digital item exchange

A system and a method to exchange digital items among peers of computer networks. The items may comprise, without limitation, files, CP, BW, storing space, money, licenses, contracts, information and any other shareable resource of peers on a computer networks. The system and method may offer the item, bid, transfer and pay for the item. A buyer of the item may become a potential seller of it. The creator of the item may receive a percentage of the payment for any transfer of the item.

Programmatic access to the widest mode floating-point arithmetic supported by a processor

A software mechanism for enabling a programmer to embed selected machine instructions into program source code in a convenient fashion, and optionally restricting the re-ordering of such instructions by the compiler without making any significant modifications to the compiler processing. Using a table-driven approach, the mechanism parses the embedded machine instruction constructs and verifies syntax and semantic correctness. The mechanism then translates the constructs into low-level compiler internal representations that may be integrated into other compiler code with minimal compiler changes. When also supported by a robust underlying inter-module optimization framework, library routines containing embedded machine instructions according to the present invention can be inlined into applications. When those applications invoke such library routines, the present invention enables the routines to be optimized more effectively, thereby improving run-time application performance. A mechanism is also disclosed using a “_fpreg” data type to enable floating-point arithmetic to be programmed from a source level where the programmer gains access to the full width of the floating-point register representation of the underlying processor.

Automatic estimation of weldgun size using section geometry

A method for estimating a plurality of geometrical parameters defining the size of a weld gun that has particular application for automatically selecting a weld gun for a welding operation. The method includes iteratively estimating a plurality of geometric parameters based on part section curves corresponding to a direction of approach of the weld gun to weld point of the plurality of weld points. Thereafter, a set of valid weld gun sizes are calculated based on the estimated plurality of geometric parameters. Similarly all the valid weld gun sizes are calculated corresponding to each of the weld gun approach direction. Further, each set of the valid gun sizes are estimated for each of the weld point for the welding operation. Finally, a weld gun for performing the welding operation is selected based on the set of weld gun sizes corresponding to the welding operation.
