88 results about "Topological order" patented technology

In physics, topological order is a kind of order in the zero-temperature phase of matter (also known as quantum matter). Macroscopically, topological order is defined and described by robust ground state degeneracy and quantized non-Abelian geometric phases of degenerate ground states. Microscopically, topological orders correspond to patterns of long-range quantum entanglement. States with different topological orders (or different patterns of long range entanglements) cannot change into each other without a phase transition.

System and method of geospatially mapping topological regions and displaying their attributes

A geographical information system and a method are disclosed for geospatially mapping a least one parcel polygon within a geographical region and for displaying at least one specific attribute of each parcel polygon, i.e. a topological area within the given geographical region, as an attached attribute of latitude and longitude coordinates. The centroid or center point of each of the parcel polygons is determined and stored into conventional computer storage means. The latitude and longitude point feature at the centroid of each parcel polygon is established and similarly stored. A unique tax identification number, e.g. the Assessor Parcel Number (APN) or Parcel Identifier Number (PIN), is assigned to each of the point features. A correlation is then made between the unique tax identification number of the point feature to a text list of at least one attribute, e.g., the physical address of the parcel polygon, of each of the point features. This attribute becomes attached to each point feature. The resulting parcel polygon map and point features with one or more of the attached attributes can then be displayed within a GIS or CAD system to provide the user, for example, accurate locations of street addresses for use in environments that require pinpoint accuracy, such as emergency response.

Support of non-trivial scheduling policies along with topological properties

Systems and methods for scheduling jobs in a multiprocessor machine are disclosed. The status of resources in the multiprocessor machine is periodically determined. The status indicates the resources available to execute jobs. This information is accumulated by the topology-monitoring unit and provided to the topology library. The topology library also receives a candidate host list which lists all resources available to execute the job being scheduled based on non-trivial scheduling. The topology library unit generates a free map F indicating the interconnection of the resources available to execute the job. The topology monitoring unit matches jobs to the resources available to execute the jobs, based on resource requirements including shape requirements indicative of interconnections of resources required to execute the job. The topology monitoring unit dispatches the job to the portion of the free map F which matches the shape requirements of the job.

Identifying schematic and topological properties of an electrical grid through analysis of directional relationships of electrical currents

The present invention provides an improved method of identifying which electrical conductor is supplying a signaling-point that is located on that conductor, in the electrical grid. The present invention makes the identification by measuring currents flowing into and out of a common connection-point, such as a power bus, and analyzing concurrent portions of these currents to determine whether they are ingress-current or egress-current over the analysis-intervals, and by a subsequent intra-bus and inter-bus analysis of the ingress / egress patterns. This is in contrast to prior art systems that rely on the measurement of signal strength, an approach that does not take best advantage of information in the signal because it fails to consider polarity of instantaneous voltages, reflective of the direction of current flow, or the intra-bus and inter-bus ingress / egress current-relationships.

Method of and system for optimizing mode selection for video coding

Mode selection is optimized for video coding requiring sequencing of decisions with respect to a data block sequence. Each decision is selected from a mode set. The sequence is a directed acyclic dependency graph with depender blocks pointing to dependee blocks numbered in reverse topological order. A trellis state transition diagram is constructed from the reverse ordered graph. The least cost path through the trellis is determined to define the optimal decision modes selected from the set of modes at respective blocks. The number of trellis stages equals the number of decisions in the dependency graph from left to right. Each trellis stage has a varying number of states corresponding to cardinality of the mode set for the decision. The number of decisions to the left of a particular stage that the stage needs to remember equals the number of decisions to the right of the stage.

Compressing massive relational data

A relational dependency transform is introduced as a way to exploit information redundancy in conditioning data in a relational database for better compressibility. An optimum relational dependency transform of the relational database is first computed. Fields of the relational database are then sorted topologically based on a weighted, directed graph having nodes representing predictor and predictee fields. For each predictee field in the topological order, a transformed field is then computed via the relationship between predictor and predictee in the optimum relational dependency transform.
