Synchronous collaboration based on peer-to-peer communication

A peer-to-peer protocol is based on the use of global timestamps and client priorities in serializing modifications to a shared workspace of real-time collaboration. The method caters to dynamic clients wherein a client can leave or join an ongoing collaboration session as long as there is always at least one client present / remaining in the collaboration session. The method can support multiple definitions of a modification, including partitioning-based definitions, wherein the method provides full support for locking of partitions, and a full treatment of inter-partition synchronization via a modification definition over multiple partitions. The method is capable of utilizing the many standard methods of creating a global, distributed, synchronized clock for the global timestamps utilized by it. The method is rollback-based for correcting tentative but incorrect serializations, and provides additional backup in terms of checkpoints for additional safety and for the support of lightweight, pervasive clients. The method includes many optimizations for efficiency, and includes a method of switching to and back from distributed server-based serialization for the periods when the network response is better suited to a distributed server than the peer-to-peer protocol.

System and method for performance complex heterogeneous database queries using a single SQL expression

Query objects are created by a client process. The query objects have one or more sub-query objects and one or more execute methods that are capable of operating on their respective query object to produce one or more query expressions. All of the execute methods are capable of producing the respective query expression that is compatible with a structured query language. A compound query contains one or more boolean expressions of one or more of the query objects. The compound query has one or more compound execute methods which invoke one or more the execute methods of each of the query objects. Each of the execute methods returns their respective query expression and the compound execute method uses one or more common table expressions to combine the query expressions to form a single compound query expression that represents the boolean expression. This single expression can be execute against a database to return a result without executing any of the query expressions against the database individually.

Self-aligned multi-dielectric-layer lift off process for laser diode stripes

A method for forming a laser diode structure. The method includes providing a laser diode material having a surface region. A multilayer dielectric mask structure comprising alternating first and second dielectric layers is formed overlying the surface region. The method forms a laser diode structure using the multilayer dielectric mask structure as a mask. The method selectively removes a portion of the first dielectric layer to form one or more undercut regions between the second dielectric layers. A passivation layer overlies the multilayer dielectric mask structure and the undercut region remained intact. The dielectric mask structure is selectively removed, exposing a top surface region of the laser diode structure. A contact structure is formed overlying at least the exposed top surface region.

Object oriented query model and process for complex heterogeneous database queries

A computer system has an interface to one or more databases, one or more base query objects, query objects, compound queries, annotator objects and graphical user interfaces (GUI's). The base query objects have one or more base query object methods, base variables, and base objects, the base query object methods being specific to the specific database and capable of querying the specific database. Each of the query objects derived from one of the base objects, and has a query type, one or more query object methods, query object variables, and query object objects. Each query object method is capable of querying a specific database to obtain a type result having the respective type. The compound query has one or more compound query methods, compound query variables, and compound query object objects. The operator objects, are derived from one of the base query objects that are used with the specific database. (GUI) has one or more query elements with one or more operators. The query elements, operators, and conditions are user selectable. Each query element, operates on the query object with the same type as the query element to create an instance of the query object with the query element. The compound query object instance uses the instances and the operator object instances to create an a query expression for the specific database. Therefore the input in the GUI is translated into a single compound query object.

Device for the removal of toxic substances from blood

The present invention relates to a device for the removal of toxic substances from dialysate fluid, blood or blood plasma, said device comprising i) a sorption-filter (E) for removing toxins, toxic solutes, toxic small and middle-sized molecules and protein bound toxins from the dialysate fluid, blood or bloodplasma, said sorption filter comprising a nanostructured material, a porous polymer matrix or a combination of the two, ii) an inlet (4) for entry of dialysate fluid, blood or blood plasma into said device, iii) an outlet (5) for the removal of purified dialysate fluid, blood or blood plasma from said device, and iv) a conduit connecting said inlet with said outlet and holding said sorption filter such that said dialysate fluid, blood or blood plasma is forced through said sorption filter.

Device for exchanging data between components of an integrated circuit

A method for transmitting messages from first units of an integrated circuit to at least one second unit of the integrated circuit. The first units generate first digital messages and transform them into second digital messages obtained by application of an orthogonal or quasi-orthogonal transformation to the first messages. The second messages of the first units are added up and transmitted to the second unit.
