Communications network quality of service system and method for real time information

The present invention provides efficient and effective quality of service for information that is time sensitive (e.g., real time data). An intermediate network communication system and method (e.g., a router) of the present invention performs cut through switching to reduce latency problems for time sensitive information. In one embodiment of the present invention, communication packet header information is encoded with a time sensitive identifier that identifies the information as time sensitive. In one exemplary transfer control protocol/internet protocol TCP/IP implementation of the present invention, time sensitive indication is provided in the link layer information. In one embodiment of the present invention, time sensitive information is dropped if the intermediate network device can not communicate the information within specified timing constraints. In one embodiment of the present invention time sensitive information is cut through routed on a virtual channel and pre-empts non time sensitive information. In one embodiment a communication path probe is cut through routed via intermediate network devices to establish a communication path before other information is communicated from a originating source to a final destination. In one embodiment the present invention leverages previously collected information to establish a communication path. In one embodiment the present invention, an intermediate network device establishes a second communication link if a first communication link is unavailable.

Lagrange quality of service routing

A method for practical QoS routing, which provides a solution to the delay constrained least cost routing problem, is presented. The method uses the concept of aggregated costs and finds the optimal multiplier based on Lagrange relaxation. The method is polynomial in running time, and produces a theoretical lower bound (i.e. optimal solution), along with the result. The differences between the lower bound and result are small, indicating the quality of the result. Additionally, by further relaxing the desire for an optimal solution, an option is provided to control the trade-off between running time of the algorithm and quality of the result.

Super-regenerative receiver including phase-locked loop

An improved low-cost super-regenerative receiver includes sampling phase-locked loop. Phase sampling is controlled by the quench signal (264). In the preferred embodiment, logic state HIGH to logic state LOW transition of the quench signal (264) defines the timing for the event of sampling. While the quench signal (264) is in logic state HIGH, a quenched oscillator is being turned ON and the oscillation amplitude builds-up until a steady-state level is reached. When the oscillator is turned OFF, effective quality factor of an electronically tunable resonator (206) is reduced, by increasing losses in the circuit, thus to ensure aperiodic (non-oscillatory) decay. The resonator's charge—an energy stored on internal reactive components of the resonator (206), which existed at the instant of turning the oscillations OFF, is transferred during precisely defined period of time to the charge holding capacitor (404) of a charge transfer circuit (216). Charge is stored on the charge holding capacitor (404), which is also part of a loop filter, until the described here charge transfer cycle is repeated again. A frequency control signal (268) at the output of the loop filter sets the frequency of the oscillation for the duration of the succeeding oscillator ON time.

Scanning neighboring base stations in a wireless access system is provided. In one embodiment, a method of scanning neighboring base stations for assessing channel quality includes receiving from a serving base station information associated with at least one neighboring base station, and transmitting a scanning request message from a mobile subscriber station to the serving base station, wherein the scanning request message comprises a requested scan duration and a requested scan iteration, the requested scan iteration being associated with a requested number of iterations of the scanning of the at least one neighboring base station. The method also includes receiving a scanning response message from the serving base station, wherein the scanning response message comprises an allowed scan duration and an allowed scan iteration, the allowed scan iteration being associated with an allowed number of iterations of the scanning of the at least one neighboring base station.

A user device transmitting at least an uplink control channel using a single carrier scheme includes a channel quality indicator generating unit configured to generate a channel quality indicator indicating a downlink radio propagation condition; and a transmitting unit configured to transmit the uplink control channel including the channel quality indicator using a dedicated frequency band when no radio resource is allocated for transmission of an uplink data channel. The transmitting unit is configured to transmit a predetermined number of unit blocks in each slot period. If a system bandwidth is greater than a predetermined value, a set of factors used to multiply some of the unit blocks belonging to the same slot and containing the same information represents an orthogonal sequence; and a predetermined number of symbol elements constituting each of the some of the unit blocks represent at least a part of the channel quality indicator.
