Systems and methods are described for coordinating transmissions in distributed wireless systems via user clustering. For example, a method according to one embodiment of the invention comprises: measuring link quality between a target user and a plurality of distributed-input distributed-output (DIDO) distributed antennas of base transceiver stations (BTSs); using the link quality measurements to define a user cluster; measuring channel state information (CSI) between each user and each DIDO antenna within a defined user cluster; and precoding data transmissions between each DIDO antenna and each user within the user cluster based on the measured CSI.

Power control in a radio data communication system adapted using transmission load

The present invention employs a power control methodology that adapts to the transmission load associated with communications between a base station and a mobile terminal. In one example embodiment, the base station gradually adjusts the power data transmitted to the mobile terminal based on that associated transmission load. As a result, radio channel quality measurements influenced by that base station data transmission to the mobile terminal are not significantly affected by the transmit power adjustment. In other words, the rate at which the transmit power is changed is slower than the rate at which mobile stations measure channel quality. For example, mobile terminals may detect a signal-to-interference ratio every time slot and use that quality measurement for purposes of selecting a maximum transmission rate for the next time slot. The transmit power might be changed by an incremental amount once every ten time slots. By only gradually changing the base station transmit power, the accuracy of the mobile terminal channel quality estimates is not significantly affected. Moreover, if there is a relatively low transmission load, the base station does not waste resources or generate unnecessary interference by transmitting at maximum power.

Method and apparatus for link adaptation

A method and apparatus for providing a link quality report in a wireless communication system supporting link adaptation. An input signal carrying data blocks in one or several transmission intervals of a reporting interval is received by a receiver of the apparatus. A quality measurement unit provides a link quality measure of the current reporting interval. A correction unit corrects the link quality measure by determining a SIR loss of the link, which is induced by unmatched transmission parameter settings of a physical layer. Then, a link quality report for the current reporting interval is based on the corrected link quality measure and transmitted by the transmitter to the transmitting unit, which will adapt the setting of physical layer parameters accordingly.

Electronic devices and accessories for electronic devices such as headsets are provided. The electronic devices may produce audio output. The headsets may include earbuds with speakers that play the audio output for a user while the earbuds are located in the user's ears. Circuitry in an electronic device and a headset may be used in evaluating how well the earbuds are sealed to the user's ears. In response to seal quality measurements, informative messages can be generated for the user, overall earbud volume may be increased, balance adjustments may be made to correct for mismatched balance between left and right earbuds, equalization settings may be adjusted, and noise cancellation circuitry settings can be changed. Electrical impedance measurements and acoustic measurements can be used in evaluating seal quality.

Uplink power control algorithm

In a system having a base station transmitter for transmitting data blocks to one or more mobile stations over a radio link, there is a method for determining an uplink transmit power level at which to transmit a current data block over a radio link from the mobile to the base transmitter station. The method evaluates airlink quality measurements in the radio link over a measurement interval, wherein each time a message is sent to the mobile station, it is evaluated whether a specified number of uplink blocks have transmitted by the mobile station since the start of the measurement interval. Based on the evaluated airlink quality measurement, the method determines the uplink transmit power level that the mobile should be using for the current block, and adjusts the transmit power level, if necessary, for the current block.

Upon the detection of an uncorrected error in the retrieved data, the disc drive (10) enters a read error recovery routine wherein one or more corrective actions (102, 122) are applied in an effort to resolve the error. One of the channel quality indicators comprises a channel quality measurement (108, 128) determined as the sum of the square of the sampled data bit error values recovered during the read operation. When the channel quality measurement is at or below a threshold value indicative that the probability of passing undetected erroneous data is at an acceptable level (110, 130), error correction is applied to the data (112, 138); otherwise, error correction is disallowed (118, 140). Additional channel quality indicators comprise erasure pointers (132) which identify a particular set of symbols that are suspected of containing a read error. In such a case, the disc drive determines that the total number of symbols identified by the erasure pointers is below a predetermined erasure threshold before applying error correction (134, 136, 138), the erasure threshold selected to be within the correction capability of error correction circuitry 90.

In the invention, the base station can accurately determines a modulation coding mode of the terminal according to the interference measurement result, and data transmission efficiency is raised.
