Networked computer telephony system driven by web-based applications

A networked telephony system and method allow users to deploy on the Internet computer telephony applications associated with designated telephone numbers. The telephony application is easily created by a user in XML (Extensible Markup Language) with predefined telephony XML tags and easily deployed on a website. The telephony XML tags include those for call control and media manipulation. A call to anyone of these designated telephone numbers may originate from anyone of the networked telephone system such as the PSTN (Public Switched Telephone System), a wireless network, or the Internet. The call is received by an application gateway center (AGC) installed on the Internet. Analogous to a web browser, the AGC provides facility for retrieving the associated XML application from its website and processing the call accordingly. The architecture and design of the system allow for reliability, high quality-of-service, easy scalability and the ability to incorporate additional telephony hardware and software and protocols.

Method and apparatus for separating particles by size

A method and apparatus for separating a mixture of particles of various sizes in a capillary tube into groups by size using multiple forces of controlled amplitude. Ultrasonic radiation at a first selected frequency is applied to set up a standing pressure wave in the capillary tube, resulting in a first aggregating force which causes particles of all sizes to aggregate at positions within the capillary tube which correspond to nodes or anti-nodes of the standing wave. Transverse vibrations are also applied to the capillary tube. The frequency of the ultrasonic radiation is adjusted to reduce the magnitude of the first aggregating force. Inertial forces resulting from the transverse vibrations then cause the particles to separate by size. The apparatus and method allows a mixture of particles to be separated by size quickly, without requiring the use of high voltages.

OFDM signal receiving apparatus and method for estimating common phase error of OFDM signals using data subcarriers

An Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM) signal receiving apparatus and method of estimating a common phase error (CPE) using data subcarriers (and pilot subcarriers) instead of only pilot subcarriers. In the OFDM signal receiver, a channel measurement unit estimates a channel from a fast-Fourier-transformed signal to generate information about good subcarrier indexes as channel state information (CSI). A Common Phase Error (CPE) estimation unit estimates good pilot subcarriers and good data subcarriers from an equalized signal output from an equalizer (EQ) based on the channel state information (CSI), calculates the first and second common phase errors from the estimated pilot and data subcarriers respectively, and combines the first and second common phase errors to generate a final common phase error.
