User terminal connection control method and apparatus

A user terminal connection control method to limit the number of sessions simultaneously connectable to the Internet, wherein an access server or authentication server has a user management table for specifying the maximum number of connections and a preferential terminal identifier indicating a user terminal to be preferentially connected to the Internet for each group comprising a plurality of user identifiers. The access server or authentication server determines, during a communication procedure for authenticating a user who requests to access to the Internet, whether the current number of connections for a group to which the user belongs has reached the maximum number of connections, and if so, determines whether to allow the user terminal to connect to the Internet depending on whether the user terminal identifier matches the preferential terminal identifier.

A few high power tones used for synchronization and / or other purposes are transmitted in a FDM system during a period of time, e.g., a symbol transmission time period. During normal data transmission symbol periods signals are transmitted using at least 10 tones, e.g., per symbol time. Less than 5 high power signals are transmitted in a symbol time with at least 80% the maximum total transmitter power transmitted being allocated to the high power signals where the maximum total transmitter power is determined from a period of time which may includes one or more data and / or high power tone transmission periods. When the high power tones are transmitted at most 20% of transmitter power is available for transmitting other tones with the power normally being distributed among multiple tones. Normally some tones which would be transmitted in a symbol time go unused during transmission of the high power signals.

SVC signaling system and method

The Intelligent Multiservice Access System (IMAS) enables support for the next generation of virtual connections. Regardless of whether the communications lines coupled to the inputs and outputs of the IMAS are based on SVC, PVC, or a combination of PVC and SVC, the IMAS can support SVCs for a more flexible, timely, efficient, and manageable connection. In the more typical configuration, the loop side of the IMAS is PVC-based because the modems do not support SVC signaling, and the telecommunications backbone side is capable of supporting SVC signaling even though existing DSLAMs do not employ SVC signaling logic. With SVC support, the IMAS assists the ATM network in hand crafting an SVC-based connection almost immediately between end users when the originating end user wants to make a call to a destination end user, and tear down that virtual connection almost immediately when that call has completed. The SVC signaling is performed by a proxy signaling agent that resides in the IMAS to give the appearance to the ATM network in the telecommunications backbone that the loop side supports SVC signaling even though the line is PVC-based.

Method and system for multirate multiuser modulation

A multi-rate interleaved frequency division multiple access (IFDMA) modulation scheme permits users to transmit at different data rates or to vary their data rates while providing frequency diversity and preserving low peak-to-average power ratios and orthogonality between users at different data rates. The modulation scheme allows user-specific data block and repetition sizes, as well as user-specific modulation codes. Code assignment rules are provided for maintaining orthogonality between users having different data rates. Block and phase ramp modulation codes can be used. Asynchronous transmissions by users are supported by ensuring that the length of the cyclic extension is sufficiently long to tolerate worst case relative signal arrival delays between users and the channel pulse response duration over the communication medium. The modulation scheme can be employed in wireless communication systems, such as cellular or paging systems.

Method for reducing the rate of registration in CDMA-based mobile networks

The method for reducing the rate of registration in CDMA-based mobile networks is a method for preventing a traveling mobile device from registering within a new, or secondary, registration area, prior to physically relocating from a first, or current, registration area to the new registration area. The mobile device has a storage memory associated therewith, for storing a database containing geographic coordinates defining boundaries of a plurality of registration areas. The mobile device scans for a new registration pilot signal associated with a new registration area, and upon detection, the geographic location of the mobile device is determined. This geographic location is compared with the coordinates of the boundaries stored within the database, and if the mobile device is determined to be within the boundary defining the new registration area, the mobile device is then registered with a base station of the new registration area.

Frequency offset hopping for telecommunications

A frequency hopping sequence generator system (40) for use in a radio telecommunications system utilizes variable frequency offsets (FO) to determine a frequency hopping sequence for use in communication between a mobile station and a network node. The frequency hopping sequence generator comprises a frequency offset hopping generator (42) which chooses the variable frequency offsets so that the frequency hopping sequence provides intra-cell interference diversity. For each mobile station, the frequency offset hopping generator determines a frequency offset index (FOI) which is mapped to one of plural possible frequency offsets (FO). The frequency offset index (and thus the corresponding frequency offset) is determined to provide the frequency hopping sequence with both interference diversity and orthogonality. The frequency offset index has a first component and a second component. The first component of the frequency offset index is an inter-cell component that provides, e.g., collision diversity between FO hopping sequences that are not orthogonal. The second component is an intra-cell component that provides orthogonal (non-colliding) sequences with a variable difference between two sequences. The intra-cell component sub-generator can operate in either a “short sequences” mode or a “long sequences” mode. The long sequences mode renders adjacent frequency collision rates between two sequences with equal FOHSN independent of the choice of the two different FOSEEDs selected. On the other hand, the short sequences mode yields higher collision rates between certain pairs than between other pairs.

Systems and methods for communicating with multiple distribution points of a network

The present disclosure generally pertains to systems and methods for communicating data. In one exemplary embodiment, a system has a high-speed channel, such as an optical fiber, between a network facility, such as a central office (CO), and a first intermediate point between the network facility and a plurality of customer premises (CP). Digital communication links, such as DSL links, are used to carry data between the first intermediate point, such as a feeder distribution interface (FDI), and a second intermediate point, such as the Distribution Point (DP). Non-shared links may then carry the data from the second intermediate point to the CPs. The links between the two intermediate points are bonded to create a high-speed, shared data channel that permits peak data rates much greater than what would be achievable without bonding. In some embodiments, multicast data flows may be prioritized and transmitted across a set of connections to each of the intermediate points. In addition, it is possible to power components at the intermediate points from one or more of the CPs.

Optionally, the data path may process a data symbol for a particular channel only if a predetermined amount of time has elapsed since a data symbol was processed for that data channel.
