Method and system for high speed video encoding using parallel encoders

In a video processing system, a method and system for high speed video encoding using parallel encoders are provided. A delimiter may break up a video sequence into encoding groups that are transferred to a plurality of parallel encoders. The parallel encoders may process and transfer intra-coded pictures in the encoding groups to previous parallel encoders or may process and transfer last predictive pictures to next parallel encoders. When intra-coded pictures are transferred, the encoding group may correspond to that of a GOP structure. When predictive pictures are transferred, the encoding group may end in at least one bidirectional-predictive picture. The parallel encoders process the transferred intra-coded pictures or transferred predictive pictures to generate a plurality of parallel outputs. An assembler assembles an encoded video output from the parallel outputs based on timing information. A controller controls the operation of the delimiter, the parallel encoders, and the assembler.

High speed data cable with impedance correction

A high speed video cable carries signals according to the High-Definition Multimedia Interface (HDMI) or DisplayPort standards, and includes a raw cable and may include a boost device. The raw cable includes coaxial lines of a characteristic cable impedance higher than the impedance implied in the standards. The correct impedance is observed at the sending end by shunt resistors mounted in the first cable connector. The resultant loss of signal may be made up with the boost device mounted in the connector at the other end of the cable in the case of a long cable. Increasing the cable impedance reduces the inherent loss of the raw cable thus permitting the use of low cost material such as tinned wires. Similar advantages are obtained regardless whether Shielded Twisted Pairs (STP) or coaxial lines are used.

High speed video capture and depth estimation using array cameras is disclosed. Real world scenes typically include objects located at different distances from a camera. Therefore, estimating depth during video capture by an array camera can result in smoother rendering of video from image data captured of real world scenes. One embodiment of the invention includes cameras that capture images from different viewpoints, and an image processing pipeline application that obtains images from groups of cameras, where each group of cameras starts capturing image data at a staggered start time relative to the other groups of cameras. The application then selects a reference viewpoint and determines scene-dependent geometric corrections that shift pixels captured from an alternate viewpoint to the reference viewpoint by performing disparity searches to identify the disparity at which pixels from the different viewpoints are most similar. The corrections can then be used to render frames of video.

Method and apparatus for compressive acquisition and recovery of dynamic imagery

A new framework for video compressed sensing models the evolution of the image frames of a video sequence as a linear dynamical system (LDS). This reduces the video recovery problem to first estimating the model parameters of the LDS from compressive measurements, from which the image frames are then reconstructed. We exploit the low-dimensional dynamic parameters (state sequence) and high-dimensional static parameters (observation matrix) of the LDS to devise a novel compressive measurement strategy that measures only the dynamic part of the scene at each instant and accumulates measurements over time to estimate the static parameters. This enables us to lower the compressive measurement rate considerably yet obtain video recovery at a high frame rate that is in fact inversely proportional to the length of the video sequence. This property makes our framework well-suited for high-speed video capture and other applications. We validate our approach with a range of experiments including classification experiments that highlight the purposive nature of our framework.
