41 results about "Fault tolerant network" patented technology

A fault-tolerant network is a network that can provide full connectivity among all the processing nodes connected to the network without losing any messages despite the presence of faults in the network elements.

Fault tolerant network utilizing bi-directional point-to-point communications links between nodes

A data communication system and an associated network node implementation is disclosed that, in certain embodiments, uses single-channel bi-directional communication links between nodes to send frames of data. The network nodes can be connected together in a ring or daisy chain topology with data frames sent in alternating directions through the bi-directional links. Such networks initially configured in a physical ring topology can tolerate single point failures by automatically switching to a logical daisy chain topology.

Fast failure protection using redundant network edge ports

A method for fast protection in a fault-tolerant network includes coupling an edge switch in a network to one or more access switches via at least first and second redundant links, respectively connected to first and second ports of the edge switch. The first port is placed in an active state, while the second port is placed in a blocking state, so that communication traffic is conveyed over the first link, and each of the switches builds a respective database for use in forwarding the traffic. Responsive to a failure associated with the first link, the second port is placed in the active state and the first port is placed in the blocking state. Dummy traffic is then sent from the edge switch over the second link to the one or more access switches, so as to cause each of the one or more access switches to modify its respective database responsive to the second port being in the active state.

Fault tolerance in networks

A method of providing a fault tolerant network, the network comprising a plurality of interconnected network nodes, the method comprising: determining an automorphism of the network; and periodically storing the current state of each network node at the corresponding network node of the automorphic image whilst each network node is substantially fault free.

System and method for a distributed fault tolerant network configuration repository

An autonomous management cluster of network elements serves as a distributed configuration repository. Network elements sharing a common pre-determined shared identifier autonomously form themselves as a management cluster. The network elements in the cluster exchange configuration files. In the event of a loss, destruction, or corruption of one of the network element's configuration file, the network element recovers its configuration file from its closest neighbor in its management cluster. The management cluster can also be used to efficiently disseminate configuration changes by simply communicating the changes to one or more elements in the cluster, and allowing the other nodes in the cluster to discover and retrieve their updated configuration files.

Fault-tolerant network switch

The invention discloses a fault-tolerant network switch, which comprises more than two network switch units and a high-reliability (without single-point failure) interconnection unit. In a normal working state, two network switch units process network data packets; if one network switch unit fails, the other one undertakes all works to guarantee continuous work at the cost of possibly reducing some performances. The failed network switch unit can be replaced and then the network can be recovered to the state before the failure; moreover, the replacement of the failed network switch unit does not influence the other working network switch unit or network connection.

Apparatus and methods for managing nodes on a fault tolerant network

Devices, systems and methods for managing communications traffic on a fault tolerant network are disclosed. The exemplary system may include a fault tolerant network with at least two nodes and at least two channels of communication. Each channel of communication is in communication with each of the two nodes. Each node selectively communicates on one of the plurality of channels. A switch is in communication with the at least two channels. The switch receives network traffic and terminates network traffic on one or more of the channels. The termination of network traffic causes a fault tolerance manager to reroute network traffic on one of the two communication channels based on received network traffic.

System and method for industrial real-time control Ethernet redundancy fault-tolerant network

The invention discloses an industry real-time control Ethernet redundancy fault tolerance network system and a method, including at least two control domains and at least one public domain connected with all control domains, wherein, each control domain adopts multipoint crossed redundancy ring network structure, core nodal point equipments on cross points are all connected with primary nodal point equipment and backup nodal point equipment of the public domain. On the basis of the prior ring network redundancy, the invention also realizes the redundancy of the core equipments needing external communication; when a primary core exchanger fails, a core exchanger which works in the backup mode is switched to work in the primary mode, the switch time is quite short. The invention also increases the double redundancy function of a public domain exchanger, the RSTP protocol is applied to the connection between the public domain and the control domains, which considers requirements on quickness as well as simpleness. In the invention, the core exchanger of the control domains adopts the ACL or the cross VLAN to replace a special bridge, thereby reducing equipment category and possible fault points and lowering delay.
