Direct Manufacture of Orthodontic Aligner Appliance

A method for direct fabrication of an orthodontic device having tooth-fitting cavities, such as an aligner, using layer-by-layer printing of a single or multiple polymeric materials. The cavities of the appliance are defined by the boundaries of the multiple layers, encapsulating up to fourteen teeth of a patient, and shaped to apply a load to at least one tooth that is sufficient to cause movement of the tooth, and remodeling of the adjacent bone. A series of such appliances may be used to treat malocclusion of teeth, each directly manufactured appliance used in series to incrementally move one or more teeth from initial positions toward a desired final position. The appliance may be fabricated with a variety of disclosed materials, and may include auxiliary features for interaction with other orthodontic elements.

Automatic determination of correct IP address for network-connected devices

The present invention is for automatic reconfiguration of industrial networked devices. More particularly, the system described herein facilitates use of TCP / IP networks, such as Ethernet, as an alternative for industrial fieldbus or device buses by removing the need to perform significant reconfiguration of devices such as I / O modules, sensors, or transducers under field replacement situations. The present invention uses a monitor agent to track the IP and MAC addresses of networked devices as well as port information. If a device fails, maintenance personnel make an in-field replacement of the failed device and the monitor agent automatically reassigns the IP address to the replacement device.

Methods and apparatus for distributing content

A system incorporates notification aspects of a presence system with content distribution capabilities of a content delivery network to both notify subscribers of the presence of content from a host and provide relatively fast and efficient delivery of the content to the user. A content host provides content, such as streaming audio or video media, to a content delivery network. The content host also provides notification of the availability of the content to a central site or presence server. A subscriber to the content host receives, from the presence server, notification as to the availability of content by the content host. The subscriber also receives notification as to the location of the content in the content delivery network. Based upon the notification, the subscriber retrieves the content from the content delivery network.

Milestone synchronization in broadcast multimedia streams

A server at the edge of a broadband network distributes multimedia content streams to clients, while ensuring that the first data delivered to each client is key data (milestones) needed for correctly decoding the stream content. This is obtained by buffering the packets in the incoming stream and transmitting the packets from the buffer in an outgoing stream, starting with the most recent milestone placed in the buffer before a request to join the respective incoming stream is received. As the writing to and reading from the buffer are performed at different rates, the incoming and outgoing streams are eventually synchronized, at which point the client may be switched to receive the incoming stream directly.

Catheter for introduction of medications to the tissues of a heart or other organ

This invention overcomes the disadvantages of the prior art by providing a positionable, direct-injection catheters that can access a specific region of the heart or other organ. The catheter is provided with one or two needle shafts, which may be located within respective sheaths that extend axially along the interior of the lumen of a main catheter shaft. Each needle shaft carries, at a distal end thereof a penetrable element or “needle” that is normally retracted within the distal tip of the main shaft during travel to the target organ, but is subsequently deployed by action of a handle-mounted trigger mechanism to extend the needles into the organ's wall. Each extended needle is curved to relative to the shaft's axis to enter the organ wall in a flattened trajectory that both reduces the chance of puncture through the wall and anchors the needles into the wall during injection (for reduced chance of pullout under pressure). A plurality of apertures which provide for more complete agent delivery rapidly, while maintaining a low delivery velocity to effect treatment delivery in as short a period of time as possible without the problems caused by high velocity delivery. The needles are typically arranged to exit the tip at contralateral orientations relative to each other

Local communication system

Examples of local communication systems are disclosed, based on a ring of point-to-point links, providing for transport of fixed rate synchronous, fixed rate asynchronous data and variable rate data in a flexible format. Different segments of the ring network can carry data at different bit rates, while remaining synchronized to a common frame rate and having a common control channel structure, for compatibility with earlier systems. Parallel channels are provided, either permanently or when required, for signalling errors of source data, data validity / padding, flow control. Parallel variable width channels are defined with free content (stream or packet). Null data symbols are defined for padding on a byte-by-byte basis. The allocation of capacity among variable width channels is revised block by block, and a transition period is defined to allow for ring latency. Calculations for allocation of capacity are performed during one block for the next block, locally at each source station, according to predetermined rules. Information as to bandwidth requirements is exchanged prior to the calculation via a special connection signalling channel and message format.

Dial-out voice notification system

A message broadcast system is disclosed for quickly delivering a relatively large amount of content to customer premises devices. A dial-out voice server initiates a plurality of telephone calls to a plurality of telephone numbers associated with customer premises alerting devices. The dial-out server also transmits a control data signal to the alerting devices, which indicates an incoming voice message to the alerting devices. The customer premises devices are connected to the telecommunication network via a communication channel and are configured to continuously monitor the communication channel for the control data signal. In response to receipt of a control data signal, an alerting device automatically configures itself to receive the incoming voice message. After delivering the voice message to the alerting device, the dial-out voice server may disconnect and place another call.

Dynamic information object cache approach useful in a vocabulary retrieval system

A concept cache useful in a vocabulary management system stores references to individual information objects that can be retrieved and dynamically assembled into electronic documents. Information objects are organized in one or more hierarchical trees, and references to nodes in the trees are cached. A query processor receives a cache query from a delivery engine that is attempting to dynamically construct an electronic document with content that matches the query. For example, a common Web site query contains a concept and an information type. The cache is searched to identify one or more rows that match the query concept and the query information type. An intersection of the rows is determined, yielding a result set of rows. Index pointers in the rows of the result set lead to stored information objects, which are passed to the delivery engine. The delivery engine assembles the electronic document using the information objects. Unlike past approaches that cache static pages, rapid delivery of dynamic pages is facilitated. Vocabularies and relationships are cached with their references to other objects, as needed, facilitating speed of execution of both the logic of constructing a document and in finding the appropriate cached version of an information object.

Category based, extensible and interactive system for document retrieval

An integrated, automatic and open information retrieval system comprises an hybrid method based on linguistic and mathematical approaches for an automatic text categorization. It solves the problems of conventional systems by combining an automatic content recognition technique with a self-learning hierarchical scheme of indexed categories. In response to a word submitted by a requestor, said system retrieves documents containing that word, analyzes the documents to determine their word-pair patterns, matches the document patterns to database patterns that are related to topics, and thereby assigns topics to each document. If the retrieved documents are assigned to more than one topic, a list of the document topics is presented to the requestor, and the requestor designates the relevant topics. The requestor is then granted access only to documents assigned to relevant topics. A knowledge database linking search terms to documents and documents to topics is established and maintained to speed future searches. Additionally, new strategies are presented to deal with different update frequencies of changed Web sites.
