49 results about "Discone antenna" patented technology

A discone antenna is a version of a biconical antenna in which one of the cones is replaced by a disc. It is usually mounted vertically, with the disc at the top and the cone beneath. Omnidirectional, vertically polarized and with gain similar to a dipole, it is exceptionally wideband, offering a frequency range ratio of up to approximately 10:1. The radiation pattern in the vertical plane is quite narrow, making its sensitivity highest in the direction of the horizon and rather less for signals coming from relatively close by.

Imaging millimeter wave radar system

An imaging millimeter wave radar system. The system includes a millimeter wave transmitter transmitting a frequency scanned millimeter beam that is narrow in the scanned direction and wide in a direction perpendicular to the scanned direction. The system includes a receive antenna and a Rotman type lens for forming a one-dimensional image in the perpendicular direction of targets in the antennas field of view based on millimeter wave radiation reflected from the targets. A computer creates a two dimensional image based on the scanning direction of the transmit beam of the transmit antenna and the one dimensional image from the receive antenna. Distance to the target is determined based on difference in frequency of the transmit signal and the receive signal. Thus, a three dimensional view of the systems field of view is determined by the system. This view can be displayed on a monitor using color to represent target distance. In a preferred embodiment the scanned direction is the vertical direction and the receive antenna forms a horizontal image from signals reflected from targets in the field of view. In this preferred embodiment the transmit antenna is a variable frequency millimeter wave single channel wave guide antenna operating in the 78 GHz to 81 Ghz spectral range to produce a scanning range of 10 degrees and a scanning rate of 60 Hz. The receive antenna is a multi-channel (176 channels) strip-line antenna also operating in the 78 GHz to 81 GHz spectral range, which with the Rotman lens, provides 192 horizontal pixel resolution.

Low visibility, fixed-tune, wide band and field-diverse antenna with dual polarization

A low-visibility, fixed-tune, wideband, and field-diverse antenna provides cross-polarized fields enhancing signal communications but having helical antenna characteristics without severe circular polarization radiation thereby promoting a modern, futuristic, and disguised look for reliable communications. A generally flat, but helical, antenna is achieved in conjunction with a core substrate about which the antenna is wrapped, wound, or fixed. The core substrate, pitch or angle of the helix, length of the transmitting antenna, and copper traces thickness are chosen for a specific resonant frequency range. The length and width of the helix are chosen in order to dimension the helical antenna between its linear and circular polarization modes to thereby deliver field-diverse and cross-polarized transmission modes. In order to optimize the manufacturing process, holes may be created within the substrate. These holes are plated with conducting material so that conducting foil on opposite faces of the substrate may be electrically connected. The holes may be offset according to the pitch of the helix. Once the transmitting antenna has been fabricated upon the core substrate, the margin between the plated-through holes and the edge of the substrate may be separated by cutting, sawing, or stamping.

Bicone antenna

A bicone antenna is provided with high bandwidth and beneficial return loss performance. The antenna is dipole based and thus its radiation pattern is not strongly influenced by shape and size of a nearby ground plane. A parasitic element comprising a conductive band encircling the antenna's feed structure improves matching, gain flatness, and makes the antenna less susceptible to detuning.
