Apparatus and methods for distributing and storing electronic access clients

Apparatus and methods for efficiently distributing and storing access control clients within a network. In one embodiment, the access clients include electronic Subscriber Identity Modules (eSIMs), and an eSIM distribution network infrastructure is described which enforces eSIM uniqueness and conservation, distributes network traffic to prevent “bottle necking” congestion, and provides reasonable disaster recovery capabilities. In one variant, eSIMs are securely stored at electronic Universal Integrated Circuit Card (eUICC) appliances which ensure eSIM uniqueness and conservation. Access to the eUICC appliances is made via multiple eSIM depots, which ensure that network load is distributed. Persistent storage is additionally described, for among other activities, archiving and backup.

Top-fill hummingbird feeder

A liquid birdfeeder includes a generally upstanding container having a large opening at its top end and a bottleneck opening at its lower end. A quarter-turn removable cap is screw-threaded onto the top end to seal the top end opening. The lower bottleneck opening is screw-threaded into a central collar of a feeding basin having a plurality of feeding ports. An actuator rod extends longitudinally through the container and is operatively connected to a biased sealing mechanism which selectively seals or opens the bottleneck opening. When the removable cap is screw-threaded onto the top end opening, the cap depresses the actuator rod causing the biased sealing mechanism to move to an open position which allows liquid to flow out from the container into the feeding basin. When the removable cap is removed, the actuator rod can move upwardly under the force of the biased sealing mechanism, which moves the sealing mechanism to a closed position and prevents liquid in the container from flowing into the feeding basin. The container can then be filled through the top opening without flooding the feeding basin. In one preferred embodiment, the bird feeder includes a common functional feeding module connected within an outer decorative cladding by an interference fit.

Streaming of data

A method of optimizing data streaming in a peer-to-peer architecture that comprises a plurality of clients in a chain, a peer-to-peer data streaming system having such architecture, and a client terminal for use in that system. Each client monitors its own bandwidth, informs a succeeding client in the chain of that bandwidth, compares its own bandwidth with the bandwidth of a preceding client in the chain and, in response to a difference between the compared bandwidths, reorders its position among the clients in the chain. The chain thus dynamically self-organizes itself to stream data more efficiently and with higher, more reliable throughput, reducing the processing power necessary to stream the data and enabling higher quality to be achieved within the existing internet infrastructure. This also solves the ‘bottle-neck’ problem within the cascaded streaming path by continuously organizing the participating terminals into the most efficient configuration, without interrupting the streamed data.

Vented, low-drip nursing nipple

A nipple assembly for a nursing bottle includes a nipple having a slit at the bottom of a concave depression in its tip acting as a fluid outlet valve. The nipple includes a flange seated on the rim of the bottle and held in place by a cap having a central opening through which the nipple extends. A threaded ring on the cap engages the threaded bottle neck with the outer circumferential edge of the nipple's flange compressed between the annular top and the rim of the bottle. The nipple flange includes vent apertures between its inner and outer circumferential edges, and a raised annular bead between its inner circumferential edge and the aperture. The annular bead provides a seal between flange and the cap that prevents fluid from leaking out the vent apertures when air pressure within the bottle is not substantially lower than ambient air pressure. When the air pressure inside the bottle falls below ambient air pressure as the infant suck fluid from the bottle, the annular bead moves away from the cap to break the seal, thereby permitting air to pass through the central opening and into the bottle via the vent apertures. The nipple includes one or more raised annular beads to provide tactile stimulation to a nursing infant and to improve the seal between the infant's lips and the nipple body to limit fluid leakage.

Memory controller including a hardware compression and decompression engine for managing system memory and graphical operations

An integrated memory controller (IMC) which includes data compression and decompression engines for improved performance. The memory controller (IMC) of the present invention preferably sits on the main CPU bus or a high speed system peripheral bus such as the PCI bus and couples to system memory. The IMC preferably uses a lossless data compression and decompression scheme. Data transfers to and from the integrated memory controller of the present invention can thus be in either two formats, these being compressed or normal (non-compressed). The IMC also preferably includes microcode for specific decompression of particular data formats such as digital video and digital audio. Compressed data from system I / O peripherals such as the hard drive, floppy drive, or local area network (LAN) are decompressed in the IMC and stored into system memory or saved in the system memory in compressed format. Thus, data can be saved in either a normal or compressed format, retrieved from the system memory for CPU usage in a normal or compressed format, or transmitted and stored on a medium in a normal or compressed format. Internal memory mapping allows for format definition spaces which define the format of the data and the data type to be read or written. Software overrides may be placed in applications software in systems that desire to control data decompression at the software application level. The integrated data compression and decompression capabilities of the IMC remove system bottle-necks and increase performance. This allows lower cost systems due to smaller data storage requirements and reduced bandwidth requirements. This also increases system bandwidth and hence increases system performance. Thus the IMC of the present invention is a significant advance over the operation of current memory controllers.

Opener and stopper for crimped and threaded bottle caps

A combined bottle opener and stopper comprises a metal plate with side edges bent downward and inwardly. Opening is performed with the use of a conventional pry off method. Opened bottles are closed with a rubber pad attached to the bottom of a recess on the inner face of the plate. The opener-stopper has three bent edges which have different heights with the difference corresponding to the pitch of the thread on a threaded bottle neck. For temporary closing the bottle, i.e., with beer or carbonated water, the device is screwed onto the threaded bottle neck as a nut until the rubber pad is tightly pressed to the upper face of the bottle to hermetically close the latter. For closing bottles with nonthreaded bottle necks, the device is moved onto the bottle neck by guiding the convergent bent edges over the neck in a direction transverse to the bottle's axis until the device is fixed tightly on the bottle due to convergence of the bent edges with the rubber pad, thereby to seal the bottle's opening. The device is also provided with sharp edges for cutting plastic wrappings around the bottle neck and with an opener for metal cans openable by pulling up a tongue connected to a scored can cover.

Ratchets for bottle necks

Bottle necks for screw-off caps are provided with external threads to mesh with internal cap threads and external ratchet teeth to engage internal cap ratchet teeth. When the neck is formed of a rigid material (e.g., PET), the sharp corners of the intersecting flanks of the teeth are hazardous. To reduce the chance of injury, in accordance with this invention the corners are rounded off in a radius having its center offset from the intersection of the working flank of the tooth and the minor ratchet diameter without detrimentally reducing the length of the working flanks. Ratchet teeth are usually located in one of two diametrically disposed quadrants. The first or transition tooth of each quadrant has a greater radius than that of subsequent teeth and its center is inset toward the neck axis. In advance of the first or transition tooth is a protective "tooth" which is rounded and has no working flank, which tends to deflect the fingers of the user away from the subsequent teeth, for reducing the chance of injury.
