Methods and kits for the inhibition of hyperplasia in vascular fistulas and grafts

A method for inhibiting hyperplasia at an anastomotic junction of a vascular fistula or vascular graft comprises exposing the anastomotic junction to vibrational energy at a mechanical index and for a time sufficient to inhibit hyperplasia. Kits are described comprising the catheter or a probe suitable for performing the methods together with instructions for use setting forth the methods. The methods and kits are particularly suitable for treating anastomotic junctions formed to provide vascular access for hemodialysis, hemofiltration, and the like. The methods and kits are also suitable for treating other vascular grafts, such as those formed during cardiac bypass graft surgery, vascular repair, and the like.

Natural error handling in speech recognition

A user interface, and associated techniques, that permit a fast and efficient way of correcting speech recognition errors, or of diminishing their impact. The user may correct mistakes in a natural way, essentially by repeating the information that was incorrectly recognized previously. Such a mechanism closely approximates what human-to-human dialogue would be in similar circumstances. Such a system fully takes advantage of all the information provided by the user, and on its own estimates the quality of the recognition in order to determine the correct sequence of words in the fewest number of steps.

The invention relates to the technical field of automatic machine assembling, in particular to a self-adaptation flexible assembling device for a hydraulic cylinder head body. The technical problem ofassembling of a cylinder barrel and a cylinder head body of a large multistage hydraulic cylinder is solved. The self-adaptation flexible assembling device comprises a cylinder barrel flexible clamping platform and a cylinder head body flexible clamping platform which are independent from each other and need to be used in cooperation with each other. The cylinder barrel flexible clamping platformis used for fixing a cylinder barrel, and the cylinder barrel flexible clamping platform can do perpendicular lifting motion and horizontal motion in the radial direction of the cylinder barrel. Thecylinder head body flexible clamping platform is used for fixing a cylinder head body, the cylinder head body flexible clamping platform can do horizontal motion along the axis of the cylinder barrel, the cylinder head body flexible clamping platform drives the cylinder head body to move towards the cylinder barrel and rotate synchronously, and finally the cylinder head body and the cylinder barrel can be assembled through thread connection. By means of the self-adaptation flexible assembling device, the historic problems that operation is complex, the assembling efficiency is low, the surface, making contact with a lifting clamp, of the cylinder barrel is likely to be damaged, and even the cylinder barrel is disengaged in the traditional cylinder barrel and cylinder head body assembling process can be effectively solved.

Food cooking appliance utilizing both steam and heat for rapidly cooking food products

A food cooking appliance which utilizes both steam and heat for rapidly cooking food products is disclosed. The food products are disposed within a food cooking housing and a steam generator is provided within a steam generator housing so as to generate steam which is fluidically conducted into the food cooking housing. In this manner, the food products are cooked as a result of the steam being conducted into upper regions of cooking chambers defined within the food cooking housing while the heat generated from the heated grills or platens impart heat to the lower regions of the cooking chambers thereby cooking the food in an accelerated manner which is extremely desirable by commercial fast-food establishments. The steam generator housing is wholly separate and apart from the food cooking housing but fluidically connected to the food cooking housing by a fluid conduit which may rigid or flexible. In this manner, the food cooking housing and the steam generator housing may be located at different locations within a kitchen facility in order that the kitchen facility be capable of accommodating both the food cooking housing and the steam generator housing. The steam generator housing may also be provided with multiple fluid conduits such that a single steam generator can supply steam to a plurality of different appliances.

Water detection and source identification methods for structures using electromagnetic radiation spectroscopy

A method of the present invention includes exposing a structure to first electromagnetic radiation including at least one wavelength absorbed by a predetermined substance that is to be detected. Such substance can be water, a water-soluble substance, or fungi, the presence of which can be a significant problem in a structure such as a house or building. The method includes sensing second electromagnetic radiation from the structure, the second radiation based on the first radiation. The method also includes determining whether the substance is present in the structure, based on the sensed second radiation. If the substance to be detected is water and the determining step reveals a water-suspect area in the structure, the method can include testing the water-suspect area of the structure to determine whether water is present therein. If water is confirmed by the determination to be present in the structure, the method can include a step of determining the source of the water. Proper identification of the source of a water problem permits appropriate measures to be taken to correct the water problem. The invention also includes similar methods for the detection of a water-soluble substance in a structure, such as carbonate, phosphate, sulfate, chloride or other minerals indicative that ground water is the source of a water problem. The invention also includes a similar method for the detection of fungi which grows in moist areas of a structure, to which many people are allergic.

Seafood sheller

Apparatus for cutting through seafood shell includes a first and second elongated member. The first member includes a handle portion disposed at a first end thereof and a jaw like portion disposed at a radially opposed end. The jaw like portion includes each of a relatively pointed nose and a relatively sharp tapered portion having a plurality of serrations disposed on an upper surface which extend from the nose back toward the handle for assisting in cutting through such shell. The second member includes a handle portion disposed at a first end thereof and a jaw like portion disposed at a radially opposed end. The jaw like portion includes each of a relatively blunt arcuately shaped nose portion and a relatively wide gripping portion for cooperating with the first jaw portion in cutting through such shell of such seafood. There is a first mechanism engageable with each of the first and second members intermediate each end thereof for pivotably connecting them together.

Wearable electronic device with mode operation indicator

A method for indicating that a wearable electronic device is operating in a selected mode, wherein the wearable electronic device comprises at least one hand operatively coupled to an actuation mechanism. The method comprises the steps of (a) moving the hand from a first position to a second position, wherein the movement of the hand is through a predetermined sweep angle; (b) moving the hand from the second position back to the first position through the predetermined sweep angle; and (c) repeating at least step (a) and if necessary, repeating step (b); whereby the hand oscillates between the first position and the second position while the wearable electronic device is operating in the selected mode. A wearable electronic device that comprises the foregoing methodology is also provided.
