Cell reselection for improving network interconnection

This invention describes a new methodology for a cell reselection by a mobile station (MS) for improving network interconnection and interoperability in a limited mobile access environment. The invention is applicable to any kind of networks and their interconnections. The invention describes how the MS can better recover from failed intersystem cell reselection attempts so that there are fewer subsequent failed attempts using two major improvements. First, the MS takes into consideration during cell reselection evaluation and candidate-cell selection, whether the MS had previously been unsuccessful in reselecting the considered cell. This means treating neighbor cells to which the MS had failed reselection before with a lower priority in subsequent cell reselection evaluations. Second, the MS is allowed to stop monitoring and thus, to stop evaluating cells if it was earlier found that the access to those cells is forbidden.

Apparatus and methods for prevention of syncope

A monitoring system has biomechanical sensors, physiological sensors and a controller which receive sensory inputs from the sensors to provide output signals for the output device, and it detects from the sensory inputs risk of a syncopal event The bio-mechanical sensors include sensors arranged to allow the processor to detect a user postures and posture transitions. The processor operates a finite state machine, in which there is a state corresponding to each of a plurality of user physical postures and to each of a plurality of transitions between said postures, and the processor determines a relevant state depending on the sensory inputs. A device output may be muscle stimulation to prevent syncope, and there are stimulation permissions associated with the finite state machine states.

Non-invasive substance concentration measurement using and optical bridge

An improved method for non-invasively measuring a concentration of a target analyte dissolved in a fluid flowing through a sample is presented. It includes directing a probe beam of electromagnetic radiation, consisting of time multiplexed components of different wavelengths, through the sample and measuring the difference of the absorption of the radiation at at least one wavelength pair at different sample states. During sample state changes, the amount of fluid containing the target analyte within the sample is changing, which varies the total amount of target analyte in the sample, as well as the absorption properties of the sample. The sample states are produced, for instance, by compressing and uncompressing the tissue sample. The accuracy of the presented method is enhanced by including continuous estimation of the amount of the fluid containing the target analyte within the sample, and measurement of the variations of the absorption at a wavelength at which the target analyte absorbs significantly. The method is particularly useful in measuring the concentration of a target analyte, such as glucose, in tissue containing blood. An apparatus for performing this method also is disclosed.

Payor focused business to business electronic invoice presentment and accounts payable reconciliation system and method

The present invention provides a system that creates a secure image of an invoice accessible to the payors and their billers through the web. Users have the option of viewing the invoice and adjudicating any disputes prior to payment. Once a payment decision has been made, payors can generate one stream of output from their enterprise resource program (ERP) systems to make payments to all of their vendors irrespective of the mode of payment. Payments will be made to all billers based on their existing preferences and the billers do not have to change their processes at all. The payments and issues file will be returned to the payors to complete posting to their accounts payables. The system provides data-feeds to all payors and billers to pre-reconcile their A / P and A / R systems.

Code and thread differential addressing via multiplex page maps

Described is a system and method whereby processes may have multiple memory maps associated therewith to provide curtained memory and overcome other memory-related problems. Multiple maps are used to restrict memory access of existing code such as drivers, without changing that code, and without changing existing microprocessors. A thread of a process is associated with one memory map at a time, which by mapping to different memory locations, provides memory isolation without requiring a process switch. Memory isolation may be combined with controlled, closed memory map switching performed only by trusted code, to ensure that some protected memory is inaccessible to all but the trusted code (curtained memory). Map switching among multiple maps eliminates the need to change a process in order to access different memory, thereby allowing expanded memory addressing in a single process and isolating untrusted code run in process from certain memory of that process.

A method of encoding information of an input signal using a fixed number of bits for each unit time frame. Part of the encoded information of at least one second frame temporally consecutively or non-consecutively preceding or following a first frame is contained in the encoded information of the first frame. This eliminates fluctuations in the sound quality due to bit surplus / shortage resulting from quantization for achieving efficient encoding and decoding.

Bone-cutting circular saw

A power bone-cutting saw system exhibits the cutting efficiency of a circular saw, but retains the practical dimensions of an oscillating saw blade. A circular saw blade, available in a variety of diameters, is positioned at the end of a narrow, low-profile elongated support. The support houses a drive assembly that efficiently transmits power from a standard hand-held portable saw to the blade. The support can rest on modified saw guides for total joint procedures, providing the surgeon with a compact, efficient and precise bone-cutting tool. In the preferred embodiment the circular saw and support are single-use disposable units, available in a variety of lengths and widths. In an alternative embodiment, twin blades are used to eliminate changes in height between the blades and the support.
