System and method for remote processing of pharmacy orders

InactiveUS20050080651A1Prevent potential medication errorIncreased focusData processing applicationsDrug and medicationsSupport servicesService-level agreement
A system and method for remote pharmacy order processing is described. Orders from hospitals are transmitted to a site for centralized order queue management. Each order is identified and added to a queue for the originating hospital. Orders are reviewed and authorized at remote order processing centers by licensed pharmacy personnel. Computers at the remote order processing centers are linked to hospital pharmacy information systems. A pharmacist at a remote order processing center selects a hospital, reviews orders from the queue for the selected hospital, and enters them directly into the hospital's pharmacy information system. The present invention also supports service level tracking and alerts for aging orders. Commitments are specified in service level agreements. The center then processes the orders according to the commitments. Hospital specific clinical initiatives and policies are stored in a central data repository and made available to personnel to ensure hospital policy compliance.

Medical Storage Case with Remote Unlocking Refrigerator with thermal Spoilage Protection

A controlled access pharmaceutical storage case has storage spaces arranged vertically one above the other and a pharmaceutical refrigerator located at its base. A remotely actuable refrigerator door lock on the refrigerator door has a data port connecting with a programmed electronic control arrangement, e.g., a computer or network. The refrigerator has a compressor at the top of the case that operates on line AC or on battery DC backup power. A battery backup arrangement is located at the top of the case. When AC is detected to be absent or insufficient, i.e., during general or localized power failure, the refrigerator operates on battery, and the door lock is prevented from unlocking. Internal temperature and humidity levels are tracked and sent at intervals to a predetermined destination for action.

Coupling system to transfer material between containers

A container containing liquid medication which can be accessed with a needleless syringe is disclosed. The vial includes a stopper defining a central portion. A blind side of the central portion of the stopper has a plurality of flaps defined by grooves. These grooves define weakened or attenuated areas that rupture when a central tube of a male luer of the needleless syringe pushes into the stopper. A liquid tight seal is formed between the male luer of the needleless syringe and the stopper to prevent spillage of liquid medication during the extraction process.

Systems, methods and devices for assessing and treating pain, discomfort and anxiety

InactiveUS20140276188A1Minimize perception of painAvoid prescribing unnecessary medicationMedical data miningDiagnostic recording/measuringElectroencephalographyPain assessment
Systems, methods and devices are provided for assessing and / or treating pain, discomfort, and / or anxiety through the development of an algorithm based on a correlation between electroencephalography (EEG) signals received from a patient and the patient's self-assessed levels of pain. The pain detection algorithm is then applied to EEG signals obtained from any patient and used to assess the patient's level of pain without requiring other input from the patient. One or more devices in a system may be implemented to measure the EEG signals, apply the algorithm and display a level of pain in real-time to a patient or healthcare provider. The real-time pain assessment may be used to continuously monitor whether a patient is in pain and select one or more treatments to minimize the patient's perception of pain and avoid prescribing unnecessary medications.

Devices and methods for disposing of medications

The present invention provides a safe means for disposing of many kinds of medications and other substances so as to mitigate the many hazards associated with flushing them down the toilet, pouring them down the sink or placing them in the trash. For example, the inventive device comprises a closeable container into which pills, capsules or liquids may be placed. Once filled or as otherwise desired, this container may be reliably sealed prior to transporting it to a reclamation place suitable for processing and / or neutralizing the chemicals, or prior to placing the entire container in the trash. A reliably sealed container in the landfill would inhibit drugs from contaminating the water supply.

Described herein are subcutaneous medication delivery applicators and adhesive patches with one or more openings in the patches that designate one or more desired injection sites for subcutaneous injection of a medication. The medication delivery applicator and the adhesive patch may both include circuitry and wireless short-range communications interfaces that allow for the two devices to communicate with one another in order to determine if they are pre-associated in some manner, such as would be the case if both devices were packaged in the same injection kit. The medication delivery applicator may have some form of safety interlock that is only disengaged by the circuitry upon verifying that the two devices are pre-associated in some manner. Various other implementations are described as well.
