Credit card system and method

A credit card system is provided which has the added feature of providing additional limited-use credit card numbers and / or cards. These numbers and / or cards can be used for a single transaction, thereby reducing the potential for fraudulent reuse of these numbers and / or cards. The credit card system finds application to “card remote” transactions such as by phone or Internet. Additionally, when a single use credit card is used for “card present” transactions, so called “skimming” fraud is eliminated. Various other features enhance the credit card system which will allow secure trade without the use of elaborate encryption techniques.

System and method for securing transactions in a contact center environment

A system and method for protecting confidential user information employed in an electronic transaction. The system and method provide for associating an expiration time / time period, use or other use-limiting authorization indicator with a credit card or other user information to be transferred to a user information recipient, in conjunction with a product / service payment or other business transaction with a hosted contact center. Embodiments of the invention further provide for forming a limited-use indicator, such as a use-limiting token, by associating a transaction agent indicator and a use-limiting indicator with the user information, and for verifying a limited use indicator received from a contact center agent and determining according to such indicator, in addition to any ordinary verification that might also be conducted, whether the use limitation has been met and whether the transaction should be authorized in accordance with the use limitation.

Emergency Braking System for a Vehicle

Emergency Braking System for a Vehicle The invention relates to an Intelligent emergency braking (IEB) system and method for a vehicle. It comprises a camera (14), one or more ultrasonic transceivers (22) of a parking aid system and a computer (20). The camera is adapted to provide captured image data, and the transceivers provide transceiver data. The computer processes said data. The camera will invoke automatic braking if: i) the confidence with which the computer calculates that a detected object is a person or is an object vehicle exceeds a first predetermined level, and ii) the ultrasonic transceiver provides the computer with transceiver data consistent with the object detected through the captured image data.

Integrated wind turbine acoustic noise and shadow-flicker detection and mitigation system

An integrated wind turbine acoustic-noise and shadow-flicker recognition system, comprising monitors located at nearby locations and base-units installed in each wind turbine, is described. The system comprehensively addresses neighbors' concerns with potential sound- and flicker-based nuisance emissions. Each monitor includes a computer processor; a microphone and light-monitor; a two-way communication system for interaction with the base-unit; and a set of indicator-lights. Each base-unit includes a computer processor; a two-way communication system for interacting with local monitors; plus a display, data-ports, and programming interfaces. Collectively, computer processors in the monitors and base-units jointly assess acoustic, optical, and turbine operating data to signal a mitigation event. The methods used to determine a mitigation event are based on a unique signature-recognition methodology that relies on analysis of data received at both the turbine and at the monitored location.

Selective operating system patching/updating

An application typically runs on top of an operating system. Some computing device have the ability to reboot and load a different operating system whenever an application or set of applications is run. If an old application requires an old operating system version, it is possible to load that OS instead. Every application can have its own version of the operating system. Only new applications or a small set of applications need to use the new OS—all the old applications may run their own older version of the OS. Patches or software updates can be applied only for particular applications. Other applications that need the same base OS but don't need the patch can skip using the patch. It is possible to determine what version the application is and selectively apply the patch based on the version of the application.
