Vehicular lockup clutch-equipped transmission control apparatus and control method thereof

A vehicular lockup clutch-equipped transmission control apparatus is applied to a vehicle that includes a heater apparatus for heating a cabin by heat from an engine, a transmission that transfers power between the engine and a wheel, and a heat exchanger that conducts heat exchange between the engine and the transmission. The control apparatus controls a lockup clutch that is disposed between the engine and the transmission and that mechanically connects and disconnects a path of power, in accordance with a state of operation of the vehicle. The control apparatus includes a controller that determines whether a heating capability requested of the heater apparatus is at least a first predetermined level based on a parameter related to a temperature inside the cabin. If it is determined that the heating capability requested of the heater apparatus is at least the first predetermined level, the controller restricts engagement of the lockup clutch.

Dual Fuel Engine System And Method Of Operating

A dual fuel engine operates on a gaseous fuel and a liquid fuel. The engine comprises a supply of gaseous fuel controlled by a first valve, a supply of compression ignitable liquid fuel controlled by a second valve, a control unit for controlling the supply of gaseous fuel and liquid fuel to each combustion chamber in the engine, and at least one knock sensor arranged to detect knock in each combustion chamber and to transmit an output signal proportional to the detected level of knock to the control unit. If knock is detected, the amount of gaseous fuel injected will be reduced while the amount of liquid fuel will be increased. The engine control system will subsequently adapt to the lower grade fuel and perform a calibration to operate as close as possible to the knock limit for the particular fuel.

Biocompatible medical devices

A modified medical device for delivery of a pharmaceutically active material is described. The present inventors have found that many conventional medical devices contain a metallic or polymeric component that comes into contact with a pharmaceutically active material during use, and that the contact substantially reduce the pharmaceutical effectiveness of the pharmaceutically active material. The invention described herein concerns various modifications to the metallic or polymeric component that are effective to diminish such a substantial reduction in pharmaceutical effectiveness.

Lubrication and cooling system

A system for reducing the refrigerant pressure in an oil sump (10) or in a cavity (352) of a housing. The invention is particularly useful for reducing pressure in a compressor (23) for heat pump applications that has been validated for water chiller operations or in turbine and generator systems in ORC systems generating electricity using refrigerant, the ORC systems essentially being a heat pump application operating in reverse. An auxiliary compressor (509), an auxiliary condenser (709) or an ejector pump (609) may be used to reduce pressure in the oil sump (10), to separate refrigerant from oil. The auxiliary compressor (509), the auxiliary condenser (709) or the ejector pump (609) may also be used to reduce the pressure of refrigerant in the housing of a compressor in heat pump applications at temperatures and pressures at which the compressor was validated for water chiller applications and of the turbine and generator in ORC applications.

Speech decoder and speech decoding method

A decoding processing portion 11 of a speech decoder 10 is provided with an emphasis processing portion 15 for performing an emphasis process on signals to be processed (excited signals) SPC generated from coded speech signals BS. A counter portion 17 counts the number of times code errors occurred in successive frames of the coded speech signal BS, and outputs the successive frame error number. When the successive frame error number outputted form the counter portion 17 is less than or equal to a preset reference successive frame error number, a first switch SW1 and second switch SW2 are set to an emphasis processing portion 15 side. Accordingly, the signals to be processed SPC generated from various parameters included in the coded speech signals are supplied through the switch SW1 to the emphasis processing portion 15 of the decoding processing portion 11 to perform an emphasis process. Then, the emphasized signals to be processed SEPC obtained by this emphasis process are outputted through the switch SW2 to latter connected devices. As a result, decoded speech signals SP with good subjective sound quality are obtained. On the other hand, when the communication quality is degraded and the successive frame error number outputted from the counter portion 17 exceeds a preset reference successive frame error number, the first switch SW1 and second switch SW2 are set to a bypass BP side. Accordingly, the signals to be processed SPC generated from the various parameters contained in the coded speech signals are outputted to the latter connected devices without emphasis processing by the emphasis processing portion 15. In this way, emphasis processing is prohibited when the successive frame error number is large, thereby reducing distortion generated in the decoded speech signals SP.

Low Memory Auto-Focus and Exposure System for Large Multi-Frame Image Acquisition

Embodiments of the invention are described that provide automated and efficient optimization of camera settings. In certain embodiments of the invention, both focus and exposure settings are determined based on an analysis of compressed images taken of a frame. Based on this analysis, the camera focus and exposure settings are set to provide a preferred image quality of the particular frame. This optimization of the focus and exposure settings is performed at each frame within the multi-frame image source. As a result, each frame image is independently optimized and addresses variations, such as light and surface inconsistencies, across the multi-frame image source.
