Automated and adaptive threshold setting

A method for managing a computer system includes monitoring first violations of a service level objective (SLO) of a service running on the computer system so as to determine a first statistical behavior of the first violations. Second violations of a component performance threshold of a component of the computer system are monitored so as to determine a second statistical behavior of the second violations. A model that predicts the second statistical behavior based on the first statistical behavior is produced. The component performance threshold is automatically adjusted responsively to the model, so as to improve a prediction of the first violations by the second violations.

Method and Apparatus for Retrieving and Indexing Hidden Pages

A method and system is provided for autonomously downloading and indexing Hidden Web pages from Websites having site-specific search interfaces. The method may be implemented using a crawler program or the like to autonomously cull Hidden Web content. The method includes the steps of selecting a query term and issuing a query to a site-specific search interface containing Hidden Web pages. A results index is then acquired and the Hidden Web pages are downloaded from the results index. A plurality of potential query terms are then identified from the downloaded Hidden Web pages. The efficiency of each potential query term is then estimated and a next query term is selected from the plurality of potential query terms, wherein the next selected query term has the greatest efficiency. The next selected query term is then issued to the site-specific search interface using the next query term. The process is repeated until all or most of the Hidden Web pages are discovered. In one aspect of the invention, the efficiency of each potential query term is expressed as a ratio of number of new documents returned for the potential query term to the cost associated with issuing the potential query.

Method and apparatus for antenna tuning

A method for tuning a transmitter in order to improve impedance matching to an antenna or to intermediate radio frequency stages uses an error detector that senses a deviation of the amplitude or phase angle of a load current of a power amplifier driver or of a power amplifier. A controller calculates a correction and dynamically adjusts tunable transmitter parameters, which may include values of components in matching networks or bias voltages in the power amplifier or the power amplifier driver, so as to reduce the deviation and thereby improve the impedance matching. The load current of the power amplifier may alternatively be sensed by measuring the duty cycle of its switching mode power supply. A transmitter having a power amplifier and one or more tunable circuit elements incorporates an error detector that senses the amplitude or phase of a load current and a controller that adjusts one or more tunable parameters to reduce impedance mismatch. An integrated circuit device suitable for use in a transmitter includes a power amplifier driver circuit and a detector circuit capable of sensing a load current, and a controller circuit that can adjust tunable parameters either within or external to the integrated circuit. By eliminating directional couplers and integrating the detectors and power amplifier drivers, the size, complexity, and cost of wireless transceivers can be reduced, while efficiency and power consumption are improved through the dynamic adjustment of operating points and impedance matching.

X-ray computed tomography apparatus

An X-ray computed tomography apparatus of this invention includes a first data detecting system which includes a first X-ray tube and a first X-ray detector and a second data detecting system which includes a second X-ray tube and a second X-ray detector. A reconstructing unit reconstructs image data on the basis of the data detected by at least one of the first and second data detecting systems. A monitoring unit monitors the first data detecting system. In a period during which the first data detecting system is normal, data acquisition is performed by both the first and second data detecting systems. In a period during which the first data detecting system is faulty, data acquisition is performed by the second data detecting system alone.

Case management system using a medical event forecasting engine

InactiveUS20160328526A1Reduce biasEasy to discover episodic progressionMedical data miningEnsemble learningDynamic featureEngineering
A case management tool uses a novel event forecast engine. The engine leverages a flexible and extensible data structure that combines diverse formats of claims (e.g., both medical and pharmacy) and that highlights “episodes” rather than items. The engine also makes predictions with respect to “cohorts” groups, where cohorts are defined using both static and dynamic features, the latter being features that change their values based on observation periods. Multiple definitions of cohorts are implemented, and optimal cohort definitions are estimated. The engine uses rolling time window processing to extract dynamic features in the data sets, and then one or more machine learning algorithms are applied to the extracted data. Cohort-wise machine learning models preferably learn on dynamic features, which are then put together for final predictions. A validation step is applied when outcomes are later observed. Validation results update the cohort definitions as well as the model parameters.
