System and method for tracking medical device using magnetic resonance detection

A system and method for using magnetic resonance to track a medical device which attenuates interfering MR signals. The system comprises an MR tracking device comprising one or more radiofrequency (RF) tracking coils adapted to receive a magnetic resonance MR response signal from nuclei excited by an RF pulse. Ideally, the RF tracking coil only receives an MR response signal from nuclei in matter in the close vicinity of the tracking device. The tracking device is attached to medical device. The interfering signal tends to emanate from large objects or large volumes that are outside the close vicinity of the tracking device but which are still weakly coupled to the tracking device. A dephasing gradient is applied perpendicular to the readout gradient before the RF response signal is received thereby dephasing the interfering signal emanating from remote nuclei, which strongly attenuates the interfering signal while the MR response signal is substantially unaffected. The system can also detect errors in tracking location by checking the amplitude of the signal from each coil and the detected distance between each coil, and correcting for such errors by ignoring data from coils having low amplitude or location deviating from known location relative to the other coils.

Method and system for substantially registerless processing

A simple instruction set processor preferably utilizes six primary components: a fetch unit, and instruction and address register, a controller/decoder, an arithmetic logic unit, an address multiplexer, and a storage multiplexer. The processor utilizes a data stream containing within it the address for a subsequent instruction to be executed by the processor, thereby avoiding the need for registers of the type utilized in prior art processors. As a result, the processor utilizes a minimal number of registers to perform its operations. The processor utilizes an instruction set in which every instruction contains a JUMP to the next instruction. By utilizing JUMPs in every instruction and providing the address to which the processor is to JUMP, there is no need for address counters and register pointers. Also, extremely fast state changes are facilitated the contents of only one register identifying a next address must be saved or restored. By eliminating data registers, data streams of any width may be supported by suitably utilizing a plurality of processor connected in parallel. The elimination of multiple registers enables the processor to more easily be embedded within memory arrays themselves. The processor preferably utilizes six primary components: a fetch unit, and instruction and address register, a controller/decoder, an arithmetic logic unit, an address multiplexer, and a storage multiplexer.

Medical viewing system and method for detecting borders of an object of interest in noisy images

The invention relates to a viewing system and a method for detecting an object of interest in a sequence of images (IS). Said object of interest is detected by first locating localizers related to said object of interest and by locating borders (BL) related to said object of interest using the location (LI, LZ) of said localizers. The viewing system according to the invention is able to produce a sequence of enhanced images in which the object of interest is enhanced, to measure some characteristics and to build a three dimensional representation of said object of interest. The viewing system is also able to register and combine said sequence of enhanced images with a sequence of reference images.
