Multi-battery fuel saving and emission reduction system for automotive vehicles

A multi-battery charging system for reduced fuel consumption and emissions for an automotive vehicle. The system starts the vehicle with a start battery in a fuel savings manner, removing electrical torque from the alternator shaft, and allows a second (run) battery to provide all or some of the current required by the vehicle loads as a fuel savings measure. The system also utilizes an electrically heated catalytic converter (EHC) and a third (EHC or storage) battery to provide a 3 to 15 second preheat and / or a 20 second current, during vehicle start, to the EHC heater coil, e.g., of a small EHC located in series with a standard catalytic converter for emissions reduction to reduce emissions during start. The start battery is recharged after start and switched out of the system fully charged for future vehicle starts. The run battery is recharged when its charge level drops below a predetermined level with an on board battery charging device powered from a 115 volt or 220 volt ac power line source external to the vehicle.

Adjustable safety utility knife with slip resistant elements

An adjustable safety utility knife includes a elongated ergonomically shaped handle formed of two elongate shell members each having a peripheral edge and an outer, generally convex surface and an inner generally concave surface. A fastener secures the shell members together at their peripheral edges along a parting plane to form an elongated internal cavity. The handle defines a front end, back end and an intermediate portion suitable for being gripped by a user and also defines top and bottom surfaces extending along opposite sides of the shell members along the peripheral edges. The handle has a slot-like aperture at the front end substantially aligned with the parting plane and dimensioned for passage of a flat cutting blade therethrough. The cutting blade is mounted for movement by a suitable guide member or a carriage between a first position for safely storing the blade fully inside the cavity and a second position for selectively extending the blade beyond the aperture to expose at least a portion thereof. A manually operated button is arranged on the top surface of the handle and is coupled to guide element or blade carriage for selectively moving the blade between the first and second positions. Slip resistant elements are secured to the shell members along the top and bottom surface between a rearwardmost operative position of the manually operated button and the back end of the handle. The slip resistant elements generally conform to the outer convex surface of the handle and enhance gripping of the handle and minimize slippage thereof during use of the utility knife when gripped by a user.

Operation of camshafts, particularly for an injection pump for diesel, having a running pulley driven in a lifting manner

InactiveUS20100037864A1Reduce and avoid slippageAdd depthCamsValve drivesEngineeringCam
The invention provides for operation of camshafts, particularly for an injection pump for diesel. A camshaft rotates around a longitudinal axis of a camshaft. The camshaft has at least one cam being in cooperation with a pressure roller driven in a lifting manner. The pressure roller rotates on the peripheral surface of the cam. The upward stroke of the pressure roller is a working stroke during which the pressure roller moves away from the longitudinal axis of the camshaft. During a return stroke the pressure roller moves toward the longitudinal axis of the camshaft. The peripheral surface of the cam has a return stroke section and a working stroke section. The peripheral surface of the return stoke section has a greater friction value than the working stroke section. Thus an operation of camshafts for an injection pump for diesel is provided, securing a rotation of the pressure roller around the circumference of the cam within the whole speed range of the camshaft.

Portable patient transfer system

A patient lifting system is provided having a vest component adjustably proportioned to fit upon the torso of a patient, and a leg belt component adapted to embrace the patient's legs just below the knees. A caregiver utilizes the lifting system by standing in front of the patient while pulling upon the vest and applying pushing force with his knee upon the leg belt. Such action causes the leg belt to act as a fulcrum which redirects the pulling force upwardly to lift the patient.

Medical tubing stabilizer

InactiveUS20120016310A1Minimize slippagePrevent irritationMedical devicesCatheterIrritationSeroma
In various embodiments of the invention, a system and dynamic device are provided to create stability of tube placement in medical and other applications. The described systems and principles also apply in other environments outside of medicine and healthcare. The described medical tubing stabilizer adheres to the tubing itself providing handles or anchors to prevent stitch slippage and to prevent the tubing from falling out in any situation that requires a semi or permanent tubing placement. The device also aides in stabilizing the tubing in the wound site, and thus maximizes placement in its intended area of effect (e.g., in the body cavity, in a medical context). These stabilizing effects substantially minimize slippage of stitching holding the tubing in place to prevent the tubing from falling out or becoming dislodged or displace, thus preventing irritation and damage to the skin around the wound site, infection, seroma, edema and morbidity in a medical context.

Positioning system for an observation device using a tensioned filament and locator ball

InactiveUS6045272ASignificant frictional advantageMinimize slippageGearingCamera body detailsFixed positionEngineering
A cable drive apparatus is presented which has minimal cable slippage and backlash. Such a cable drive is particularly well suited for systems requiring accurate positioning and repositioning capabilities, such as motorized camera orientation systems. To achieve minimal slippage on a cable driven pulley, one or more positioning balls are located at fixed locations on the cable, and corresponding positioning holes are located on either pulley. Tensioning means are also provided to remove slack, to minimize the backlash which may result from the stretching of the cable over time. A two pulley system is presented wherein the cable is fixedly attached to one pulley, travels over the other pulley which has the slippage constraining positioning holes, and then to tensioning means which also fixedly attached to the first pulley.

Transmission systems

A transmission that functions as a combination friction drive and gear tooth drive: The transmission utilizes VCT conic teeth added to the surface of a variable pulley. The teeth in the sides of a continuous loop, or a two-faced gear, engage the teeth on this conic surface. When the pulleys contract or expand, the top of the teeth engage the surface frictionally. When the contraction or expansion of the pulleys move the continuous loop, or two-faced gear, to the next ring of conic teeth, it engages the conic teeth as a toothed drive.
