Phase change material thermal capacitor clothing

An apparatus and method for metabolic cooling and insulation of a user in a cold environment. In its preferred embodiment the apparatus is a highly flexible composite material having a flexible matrix containing a phase change thermal storage material. The apparatus can be made to heat or cool the body or to act as a thermal buffer to protect the wearer from changing environmental conditions. The apparatus may also include an external thermal insulation layer and / or an internal thermal control layer to regulate the rate of heat exchange between the composite and the skin of the wearer. Other embodiments of the apparatus also provide 1) a path for evaporation or direct absorption of perspiration from the skin of the wearer for improved comfort and thermal control, 2) heat conductive pathways within the material for thermal equalization, 3) surface treatments for improved absorption or rejection of heat by the material, and 4) means for quickly regenerating the thermal storage capacity for reuse of the material. Applications of the composite materials are also described which take advantage of the composite's thermal characteristics. The examples described include a diver's wet suit, ski boot liners, thermal socks, gloves and a face mask for cold weather activities, and a metabolic heating or cooling blanket useful for treating hypothermia or fever patients in a medical setting and therapeutic heating or cooling orthopedic joint supports.

Protective fabric and apparel systems

A multi-layer protective fabric includes an inner layer, an middle layer, and an outer wicking layer. The outer fabric layer includes an inside layer of hydrophobic material, an outside layer of hydrophilic material, and an intermediate layer of hydrophobic monofilament yarns extending between and knitted together with the outside and inside layers, and promotes wicking of moisture from a wearer's skin to the outer layer. The multi-layer protective fabric middle layer includes a porous, cushioning material. The multi-layer protective fabric inner layer includes a cushioning, abrasion-resistant material, such as doeskin. Articles of apparel, for example cycling shorts, can include such a multi-layer protective fabric either alone or in combination with other moisture-managing, cushioning fabrics. Such protective fabric and apparel systems provide improved removal of moisture from skin, reduction of contact stress, and decrease in abrasion.

Tights presenting a localized compression effect for practicing a sport

Tights having a localized compression effect for practicing a sport in which the legs are moved repetitively, in particular running or cycling, are constituted by stretchable textile pieces assembled to one another, namely first pieces having normal elasticity, second pieces providing a compression effect, and optionally third pieces having greater elasticity. When assembled together, all of the first and second pieces present substantially the same mean elasticity in the longitudinal direction of the tights, while the second pieces present, in the transverse direction, mean elasticity that is less than half the mean elasticity of the first pieces. Preferably, the difference in mean elasticity in the transverse direction between the first pieces and second pieces presenting the compression effect presents a ratio lying in the range 2 to 3.

Shaped Fit Sizing System with Body Shaping

Jeans are fitted based on the concept of shape, not size. There are at least three shape categories for different levels of curviness. With shape category information, the consumer can more easily find and fit a pair of form-fitting jeans. These jeans can also include a body shaping panel on an inside surface of a material of the pants to help actively shape the body. The body shaping panel enhances the body's natural curves while de-emphasizing the body's flaws, so the consumer can feel confident and attractive in their jeans.

Athletic shorts

Athletic Shorts are a tight fitted running shorts that improve the performance of running or walking by utilizing gravity as a source of energy. The shorts have elastic straps attached from the waist and extend across the front side of the leg to the bottom near the leg opening of the shorts. When standing straight up the elastic is elongated by the weight of the leg. The elongated elastic provides a pulling energy for the leg by contracting when moving up in a step of a walk or stride of a run. When the step or stride is lowered back to the ground the elastic is again elongated by the weight of the leg. The repeated action of the contraction and elongation of the elastic straps provide increased performance when walking or running. Leg Adjustment Straps around the bottom of the shorts are used to draw the shorts tight to the leg. Athletic Shorts increase performance when gauging time over a fixed distance utilizing gravity of the leg as a source of energy in the physical walking or running action.
