WDM type passive optical network

In a WDM type PON system, each ONU comprises an optical transmitter capable to transmit optical signals with variable wavelengths, an optical signal receiving filter variable its receiving wavelength, and a control unit. An OLT selects in response to a wavelength allocation request from each ONU, a transmitting wavelength and a receiving wavelength out of currently free wavelengths and allocates these wavelengths to the requester ONT. The control unit of the ONU switches the transmitting wavelength of the optical transmitter and the receiving wavelength of the optical signal receiving filter to the wavelengths specified in a response message from the OLT and starts data communication.

Concurrent phase communication in TWACS

A method for concurrently communicating over each phase of an electrical power distribution network (N). A first outbound signal (SO1) is transmitted over one phase (AN-A) of a bus (S) by an outbound modulation unit. The unit is released as soon as the first outbound signal (SO1) is transmitted so the unit can transmit a second outbound signal (SO2) over a second phase (BN-B or CN-C) of the bus. The second outbound signal is transmitted concurrently with an inbound signal (IB1) sent in response to the first outbound signal (SO1). The unit is again released, as soon as the second outbound signal (SO2) is transmitted, so the unit can transmit a third outbound signal (SO3) over the third phase (BN-B or CN-C) of the bus. This third outbound signal is transmitted concurrently with a second inbound signal (IB2) sent in response to the second outbound signal (SO2). The method allows concurrent communications over all three phases of the network (N).

Dynamic use of multiple IP network interfaces in mobile devices for packet loss prevention and bandwidth enhancement

The particular status of a Multiple Network Interface Mobile Device (MID) is identified and particular problems associated with that status are addressed by activating different modes of operation depending upon whether the MID is stationary or in motion. In particular, when the mobile device is in motion, the multiple network interfaces are used to prevent packet loss, and when the mobile device becomes stationary, the multiple network interfaces are used to enhance bandwidth to achieve superior Quality of Service (QoS). MIDs thus are allowed to utilize multiple interfaces simultaneously for bandwidth incremental increases if the mobile device is stationary. MIDs also are allowed to utilize multiple interfaces simultaneously for packet loss recovery and smooth and seamless transitioning from one interface to another when the mobile device is in motion.

Method of prefetching reference objects using weight values of referrer objects

In a client-cache-server system, the weight value of a first object which is maintained in the cache and linked to a second object maintained in the server is determined. Based on the weight value, a decision is made as to whether prefetching is necessary. If the decision indicates that prefetching is necessary, the second object is prefetched from the server to refresh the cache. A further decision is made as to whether update enquiry is necessary based on the weight value. If the further decision indicates that update enquiry is necessary, a message is sent to the server for inquiring whether the first object has been updated in the server. If the server responds with a reply that indicates that the first object has been updated, the second object is prefetched from the server to refresh the cache.
