Production of hydrogen and removal and sequestration of carbon dioxide from coal-fired furnaces and boilers

Methods for reducing and eliminating carbon dioxide from the emissions of solid fuel fired power plants, particularly coal fired power plants, and to sequester the carbon dioxide, typically by using existing equipment. In some embodiments, the methods involve pyrolyzing the solid fuel to remove volatile matter and using the volatile matter to produce hydrogen. Additionally, the methods may involve burning the solid fuel or pyrolized solid fuel at very fuel rich stoichiometric conditions. Sequestration may include the production of a carbon dioxide-containing solution and the pumping of the solution into the ground, particularly in areas high in limestone.

Index and Method for Extending and Querying Index

Disclosed are an index structure and a method of extending index which comprises: (a) performing indexing operations of generating inverted index for newly inserted data source in the memory; (b) if the number of source data involved in the indexing operations reaches a first threshold value k1, sequentially writing the generated inverted index into the first index subfile; (c) if the number of the smallest grids, or index groups, in the first index subfile reaches a second threshold value k2, merging the k2 grids into a larger grid and sequentially writing it into the second index subfile; and (d) if the number of the smallest grids in the second index subfile reaches a third threshold value k3, merging the k3 grids into a larger grid and sequentially writing it into the first index subfile. Because index updating mostly occurs in small grids, the number of I / O operations on large grids is reduced and thus the speed of index building and updating is increased. In addition, the threshold values k1, k2 and k3 may be automatically adjusted based on the usage of system resources.

Automated generation of theoretical performance analysis based upon workload and design configuration

A method of more efficiently, easily and cost-effectively analyzing the performance of a device model is disclosed. Embodiments enable automated generation of theoretical performance analysis for a device model based upon a workload associated with rendering graphical data and a configuration of the device model. The workload may be independent of design configuration, thereby enabling determination of the workload without simulating the device model. Additionally, the design configuration may be updated or changed without re-determining the workload. Accordingly, the graphical data may comprise a general or random test which is relatively large in size and covers a relatively large operational scope of the design. Additionally, the workload may comprise graphical information determined based upon the graphical data. Further, the theoretical performance analysis may indicate a graphics pipeline unit of the device model causing a bottleneck in a graphics pipeline of the device model.

System And Method For Determining The Location Of A Location Tracking Device

A system and method for determining the location of a location tracking device employs a satellite based location determining infrastructure, such as the GPS system, and a wireless data communications network such as a cellular voice and / or data network such as GSM / GPRS. A location tracking device which cannot easily obtain valid ephemeris data, or the like, from the satellite based location determining infrastructure requests the necessary data from a data set stored at a tracking device hub or the like, via the wireless communications network. The tracking device hub determines an estimated position of the location tracking device and this estimated location is transmitted to the location tracking device, along with the appropriate required valid ephemeris data, or the like, to allow the location tracking device to determine its location. If the location tracking device is still unable to make a location determination from the satellite based location determining infrastructure, then the estimated location can be provided. The topography of the base stations, which is used to estimate the location of the location tracking device, is self-determined by a process executing in the system and can include base stations from networks operated by different network operators.

Charge equalizing clock driver and other enhancements for time-of-flight depth sensing and other systems

A clock driver outputs first and second preferably complementary clock signals coupled to substantially equal capacitive loads. Before each clock state change, the clock driver briefly shorts-together the first and second clock signals, to equalize change on capacitive loads, which each assume a potential midway between high and low power supply levels. Charge from the logic high clock signal can thus be used to raise logic low level clock line, and vice versa, rather than draw power supply current. Substantial energy savings on the order of C·V2·f is achieved, where C is effective capacitive load, V is power supply magnitude, and f is clock frequency. The clock driver includes first and second enhanced inverters (inverters that cannot enter short-circuit current mode) whose outputs are the first and second clock signals, and a transistor switch coupled between the inverter outputs. Turning on the transistor switch forces charge equalization.

Detection device and gesture input device

A detection device installed to a vehicle to detect a gesture of a finger of an operator includes: a detection portion disposed to a steering column of the vehicle or in close proximity to the steering column to detect a space within a predetermined range toward a steering wheel; and a switch portion arranged behind the steering wheel and operated by the operator. The detection portion determines whether the input signal is inputted from the switch portion within a fixed time period after the detection portion detects the gesture of the finger of the operator. The gesture is made valid when the input signal fails to be inputted into the detection portion. The gesture is made invalid when the input signal is inputted into the detection portion.

Fixed-type constant-velocity universal joint

Internal dimensions for fixed-type constant velocity universal joints are defined to optimize the geometry of the components of the joints and to readily achieve a larger operating angle of the joints. In the joint, the track grooves of an outer ring and an inner ring are tapered by an angle not exceeding 12°. The ratio (f / PCR) of the cage offset amount f to PCR is greater than 0 and smaller than or equal to 0.12. The ratio (Do / d) of the cage outer diameter (Do) to the ball diameter (d), the ratio (t / d) of the cage wall thickness (t) to the ball diameter (d), and the ratio (w / d) of the cage width (w) to the ball diameter (d) are such that 3.9≦Do / d≦4.1, 0.31≦t / d≦0.34, and 1.8≦w / d≦2.0, respectively. The end of the spherical outer surface of the cage adjacent to the open end is axially extended, and the end of the spherical inner surface of the cage adjacent to the open end is tapered so that the tapered surface has an increasing diameter toward the end of the spherical outer surface adjacent to the open end. Part of the spherical outer surface of the cage is cut on the open end side of pockets, and the outer diameter of the cage across the two opposing planer cut faces is smaller than the spigot diameter of the outer ring.
