Method and apparatus providing rapid end-to-end failover in a packet switched communications network

A hardware-based failover scheme enabling rapid end-to-end recovery is provided. Hardware logic periodically generates, transmits, receives, and processes heartbeat packets, sent from one end of the communications network to another, and then returned back. If a communications network node or communications link failure is being experienced along the transport path, then the hardware logic rapidly swaps the affected traffic conveyed to a pre-established backup transport path, typically within microseconds. Advantages are derived from the rapid failover effected end-to-end which enables continued delivery of provisioned communications services improving the resiliency and / or availability of a communications network.

Biocompatible polymer compositions for dual or multi staged curing

The present invention provides a biocompatible polymer composition for use in biomedical applications comprising a base molecule, a linker molecule and at least one initiator compound, said base molecule having at least two differing functionalities, and said linker molecule having a functionality reactive with at least one functionality of said base molecule, the first of said at least two functionalities of said base molecule enabling a first curing stage of said polymer composition by reaction with said linker molecule, and the second and any further functionality of said base molecule enabling second and further curing stages of said polymer composition, said first, second and any further curing stages being capable of activation simultaneously or independently of each other as required. The invention further provides uses of the polymer compositions of the invention in biomedical applications such as tissue engineering, dry delivery, as a bioadhesive in wound healing, as bone substitutes or scaffolds, as cements in dental and periodontal applications and as anti-adhesives or protective barriers.

Methods and system for device-to-device communication

An advanced wireless communication system, and a method for use at an advanced wireless communication system are disclosed that support direct communication to provide flexible resource pool sharing. The method comprises: measuring, at a first UE, utilization of at least one resource pool of a direct communication channel associated with a configured shared region; transmitting, by the first UE and to at least one second UE, sidelink control information (SCI) identifying a selected resource pool of the at least one resource pool; and transmitting, by the first UE and to the at least one second UE, data associated with the SCI in the selected resource pool.

Flexible liquid transport tank with surge dampening baffles

Flexible tanks for transporting liquids comprising a flexible bladder to contain liquid, several transverse surge dampening baffles inside the bladder, each baffle comprising several flexible panels, each having a base connected to the inside of the bladder and aligned along a plane transverse to the bladder and an unsupported terminal end opposite the base and adapted to converge with the unsupported portions of adjacent panels in a manner that defines a barrier to fluid flow across the transverse baffle when the bladder is filled; and a connector for interconnecting the terminal ends of the panels. There may be provided a flexible outer bladder of an abrasion resistant material that is adapted to removably receive the inner bladder. There may be provided longitudinal baffles situated between adjacent transverse baffles that define longitudinal compartments with restricted fluid flow there between for dampening lateral fluid surges.

High Solids Fermentation for Synthesis of Polyhydroxyalkanoates From Gas Substrates

InactiveUS20120028321A1Simple and economic techniqueLow cost productionFermentationMicroorganismGas phase
Production of polyhydroxyalkanoates (PHAs) is performed by delivering substrates such as methane in gas phase during a high solids fermentation. Microorganisms are grown under balanced conditions, then gas phase substrates are delivered under unbalanced conditions to produce PHA granules inside the cells. The cells containing these granules are lysed and the bioplastic powder recovered. The balanced phase growth may occur in submerged liquid cultures or attached as biofilms to a surface.

Cell-Targeted IKB and Methods for the Use Thereof

Activation of nuclear factor kB (NF-kB) is involved in a number of diseases such as viral and bacterial infections, and cell proliferative disorders such as cancer and autoimmune disease. In certain instances, constitutive NF-kB activity has also been liked to the resistance of certain cancers to chemo and radiation therapy. The instant invention concerns method of inhibiting NF-kB activity in target cell populations by deliver of a polypeptide inhibitor of NF-kB (IkB). Methods of the invention may be used to treat diseases such as infections, and cell proliferative disorders. Methods for sensitizing cells to apoptosis and cytotoxic therapies are also described.

Riser release flaring system for parafoils

Described herein are features for a riser release flaring system for parafoils and other descent flight vehicles for controlled descent and landing of the flight vehicle. The descent flight vehicle may have a payload suspended by a canopy. The descent flight vehicle may be released from a high altitude lighter-than-air (LTA) system, from another system, or may not be associated with any other flight system. The riser release auto flare system is used with the descent system, such as the parafoil, for controlled and safe landing of the payload. Riser lines are released at a controlled rate and for a fixed distance to automatically cause the payload to pull control lines to flare the parafoil and slow a descent and / or forward speed of the vehicle. The riser lines may be released in response to the descent system satisfying a landing criterion, such as altitude.
